국제갤러리는 오늘부터 5월 10일(일)까지 한옥과 K3에서 #로터스강 의 개인전 《코라》를 개최합니다. 국내에서 열리는 첫 개인전인 이번 전시에서 작가는 개인적인 경험을 공간을 넘어 과거와 현재를 넘나들며 다양한 시간성을 장소에 담아보는데요.
전시 제목인 ‘코라(Chora)’는 불가리아 출신의 프랑스 철학자 줄리아 크리스테바(b. 1941)가 발전시킨 개념으로, 의미나 형상이 고정되기 이전의 원초적 공간을 뜻합니다. 작가는 이런 ‘코라’를 공간을 통해 실현하는데요. 특히 전시의 시작을 알리는 국제갤러리 한옥의 마당을 ‘코라’로 보고 ‘중간(in-between)적’ 상태를 능동적인 힘으로 해석합니다. 한편 K3에서는 이 마당을 현대 건축물 안에 번안한 설치작 〈Chora Chora〉(2025–2026)를 처음으로 선보이는데요, 이를 통해 작가는 자신이 오랜 시간 내밀하게 구축해온 시공간의 흔적을 작품 속에 담아내고, 그 층위들을 켜켜이 축적합니다.
Kukje Gallery presents Lotus L. Kang’s solo exhibition 𝘊𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘢 at its 𝘏𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘬 and K3 spaces, on view from today through May 10. Marking the first solo exhibition in Korea, the exhibition explores how personal experiences transcend spaces, interweaving the past and the present to capture multiple temporality within a space.
The title of the exhibition draws from the concept of “chora” articulated by the Bulgarian-French philosopher Julia Kristeva (b. 1941), which describes a primordial space prior to fixed meaning or form. Kang realizes this “chora” through space, reinterpreting the courtyard of Kukje Gallery’s 𝘏𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘬 in particular. She sees the courtyard as “chora” and views its state of “in-between” as an active and generative force. Meanwhile, at K3, Kang presents for the first time 𝘊𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘢 𝘊𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘢 (2025–2026), an installation that translates the courtyard into a contemporary architectural setting. Through this work, Kang captures traces of the multilayered temporality and space she has been developing intimately over a long period, accumulating these layers within the work.
