S.Thomas' College Museum The Thomian Heritage Museum was established to showcase the impact our ancestors created in the form Items used by some old boys are on display too. S.

The Thomian heritage museum was first opened in the year 2001in a room in the main hall building. In 2003 the museum was shifted to the present location on the first floor of the Old Boy's Association Secretariat. The museum has many items(artifacts) that are of value and interest to the history of College; including Portraits and group photographs. Eg: Cricket blazers. Laboratory equipment used i

n the early 1970s and before are displayed. The Hammond and the Allen organs are in the museum. The Hammond which is special to the school is in the process of being restored as we feel that it s fully worth the effort. We would like all our old boys, present students and non Thomians to join our effort in the interest of the "The School By The Sea". Please feel free to make a contribution in any form towards the museum project or help us to make contact with those who can help to bridge the gaps in our history - which has to be filled in. The museum is cared for by the members of "The Society for the Preservation of Thomian Tradition" now called "The Thomian Union".The current student members of the Union are very dedicated in making the museum a complete success even with all the short comings. The museum is running out of space and some arrangement will be made to relocate it in 2016. Our appeal to everyone is to help make the museum a success. Information of the Mutwal era will be very welcome as there is very little of it in the museum. Information from the near past is also welcome. Any items that the owner does not wish to part with for a reason we could always make a replica to be kept in the museum. Thomas' College is a great school known all over the world. Many Old Thomians have done a lot to the world because of their college education at this honorable Institution. For more information can contact our Admins on this page or the Thomian Union.

Wedding of RAF P/O Allan Ebert and Pamela Duncan at St Mary's Church in Wimbledon on Saturday 14th February 1942.

Ebert who was born in Kalutara, Ceylon in 1917 was a student at S' Thomas College Mount Lavinia. He went on to become a night fighter and was the first man from Ceylon to hold a commission in the RAF.

'The Viscounts' - a popular band from Dehiwala in the 1960s was an all Thomian group. The lineup from (L-R) Earl Gunawardane (Rhythm) Suren Ediriweera (Drums) Dugal Samarasinghe (Vocals and Percussion) Richard Kirby (Lead) and Navin Paranawidana (Bass). Navin later backed Alston Koch along with Brian Felthman & Eardly Fernando for Hellions and Ishan Bahar & Claude Selveratnem with The Esquire Set.

ශ්‍රී ලංකා හමුදා ඉතිහාසය බිහිකළ කීර්තිමත් සෙනෙවියකු වන ලුතිනන් කර්නල් සුනිල් පීරිස් යනු දේශපාළුවන් ලඟ දනින් වැටී ජනරාල්ලා වූ නිකමුන්ට වඩා ගව් ගණනක් ඉදිරියෙන් සිටින පුද්ගලයෙකි.

ගල්කිස්ස ශාන්ත තෝමස් විදුහලේ ප්‍රධාන ශිෂ්‍ය නායකයා වූ සුනිල් පීරිස් හමුදා සේවයට බැඳි මෙරට කොමාන්ඩො රෙජිමේන්තුව බිහිකළ පුරෝගාමියාය. ඔහු මෙන්ම ඔහුගේ සොහොයුරා වූ ඊලාම් යුද්ධයේදී දිවිපිදූ වින්ග් කමාන්ඩර් එක්සිත් පීරිස්ද ගුවන් හමුදා කොමාන්ඩෝ බළකායේ නිර්මාතෘවරයාය.
කොමාන්ඩෝ රෙජිමේන්තුවේ නැපෝලියන් යන නමින් විරුදාවලිය ලත් ලුතිනන් කර්නල් කශේරුකාවක් ඇති හමුදා නිළධාරියෙකු විය. තම රාජකාරි දිවියේදී හමුදා විනයට හැර පඩංගු දේශපාළුවන්ට කිසි දිනෙක අවනත නොවීය. එම හේතුව මත රටට ආදරය කරන සියළු දෙනාම ඔහුට ආදරය කළේය.

1988 වසරේදී ගනේමුල්ල කොමාන්ඩෝ රෙජිමේන්තුව වෙත අත්අඩංගුවට ගනු ලැබූ තරුණයින් 26 දෙනෙකු බස් රථයක පටවා එවනු ලැබුවේ වධදී පරලොව යවන ලෙස ලුතිනන් කර්නල් සුනිල් පීරිස්ට අණ දෙමින්ය.

ගල්කිස්සේ ශාන්ත තෝමස් විදුහලේම ආදි ශිෂ්‍යයෙක්ගෙ එම නියෝගය ප්‍රතික්ෂේප කළේ එම විදුහලේම අධ්‍යාපනය ලැබූ ධනපති පංතියම නියෝජනය කළ සුනිල් පීරිස්ය. ඔහු මෙම අදහසට එරෙහි විය. අවසානයේ මිලේඡ්ච දේශපාළුවන්ගේ අණ පිළිපැදීම වෙනුවට තම නිළ ඇඳුම් ගලවා හමුදාවෙන් ඉවත්වී ගෙදර ගියේය. ලොව පිළිගත් මිලිටරි සම්ප්‍රධායක් වූ ඉහළින් එන කුමන අණක් වුවද එය නීති විරෝධී නම් එම අණ පිළිපැදීමෙන් සිදුවන අපරාධයට අණ පිළිපැදූ හමුදා නිළධාරියා වගකිව යුතුය. අයුක්ති සහගත ලෙස එම තරුණයින් පරලොව යැවීම ප්‍රතික්ෂේප කළ මෙම උදාර හමුදා සෙන්පතියා අති ගෞරවණීය ලෙස හමුදාවට සමුදී ගෙදර ගියේය.

Engineer, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and wildlife enthusiast, Bamunu Arachchi Mahipala (Mahi), is the first Thomian and Ceylonese to set foot on Antarctica for the first time in 2011. Mahi attended S. Thomas’ Prep, S. Thomas’ Gurutalawa and S. Thomas’ Mount Lavinia to complete his secondary education. He graduated from the University of Peradeniya as a Mechanical Engineer.

The late B. A. Mahipala - was the Chairman of BAM Holdings and the Honorary Consul General for the Republic of Madagascar in Sri Lanka. Mahi sponsored the renovation of the Hayman Senior Dormitory at Gurutalawa and also the first solar power project at S' Thomas College Mount Lavinia. He was also the author of "Odyssey into the Wild" - in which he chrocicles his journeys to remote corners of planet earth. ( https://businesstoday.lk/odyssey-into-the-wild/ )
