The goal of this page, created and maintained by Jerry Klein, a survivor of the accident if you like, is to collect and uphold the memory of the 31st July 1981 fighter jet accident in Dudelange (RTL Antenna crash). One day the "Waldschoul" decided to have a Barbeque up at the Ginzbierg, the hill on which was installed the 300 meter RTL transmitter antenna. As a matter of fact the barbeque spot was
situated at 50 meters next to the antenna. I believe we were 30-40 kids playing around that spot when suddenly at 13:30 a Beglian Fighter Jet crashed into the antenna and cut it in half. The explosion and the heat from the fireball...I shall never forget. But for a strange reason no one cared about us kids at the time. We were to walk [!] back home...all on our own (remember I was 8 and quite traumatized from a spectacular plane accident, 50 meters away). Besides, not one news article picked up on this and investigated how lucky the children of the "Waldschoul" finally were. I hope that this page contributes to collecting memories of us "Waldschoul" Kid's and other witnesses such as our families that were worried about us at the time. I also hope that all these memories help me to re-assemble all the bits and pieces that are lost in my own memories. And finally this page, maybe, might allow for lifting the secret why no-one bothered about the trauma of kids, survivors of a terrible accident, and why the press never published a single line about us in now 40 years.
