Another journey for works from the Fondation Alliances - MACAAL collection.

Four works by Mohammed Ben Allal, including La préparation du repas, were loaned to the Jemaa el-Fna Museum of Intangible Heritage Jamaâ el-Fna, musée du Patrimoine Immatériel in Marrakech for the exhibition Mohammed Ben Allal, Récits du quotidien, presented from 25 December 2025 to 28 May 2026.

Dedicated to the self-taught artist born in Marrakech, the exhibition highlighted Mohammed Ben Allal’s unique body of work, developed outside academic traditions and deeply rooted in everyday life. Through scenes of ordinary gestures, social realities, and popular culture, it celebrated one of the most singular voices in Moroccan painting.

The sun’s journey

Rather than depicting the sun itself, Radiance #5 by Mustapha Azeroual captures the changing colours of light throughout the day. Printed on a lenticular surface, the colours shift as you move, meaning no two viewers experience the work in exactly the same way.

Transforming fleeting moments into an immersive abstract composition, the artwork evokes the warmth, radiance, and ever-changing beauty of the sun.

Within Seven Contours, One Collection, the permanent exhibition at MACAAL, Promise unfolds as one of the seven thematic spaces.

Inspired by the spirit of Marrakech and its iconic Jemaa el-Fna Square, this gallery celebrates the city as a place where artistic, cultural, and social practices intersect. Since the Casablanca School’s manifesto exhibition in Jemaa el-Fna Square in 1969, Marrakech has remained a vital centre for African art, bringing together contemporary creation, popular traditions, performance, storytelling, photography, and craftsmanship.

Through the works presented, Promise explores the city as a living space of exchange, where memories, rituals, and everyday gestures coexist. Rooted in both the earthly and the mystical, the gallery invites visitors to experience Marrakech beyond its familiar image, revealing the encounters, rhythms, and shared histories that continue to shape its cultural identity.

What do you see?

At first glance, many people see coral, a sponge, or another marine organism. But Gestalt by Chris Soal is actually made from thousands of discarded birch wood toothpicks.

The title refers to the psychological concept of Gestalt, the idea that we tend to perceive something as a complete, unified whole rather than as a collection of separate parts. In other words, the whole can become something greater than the sum of its individual elements.

This principle is at the heart of Soal’s work. From a distance, the thousands of toothpicks merge into an organic, almost living form. Up close, however, each individual element becomes visible, revealing the unexpected materiality behind the illusion.

By transforming an overlooked, everyday object into a biomorphic sculpture, Soal challenges our perceptions of waste, value, and nature. Gestalt invites us to consider how seemingly insignificant elements can become meaningful when brought together, and how our relationship with materials, one another, and the environment is similarly interconnected.

One of our works is spending the summer in Rabat.

Composition (1970) by Mohamed Melehi, from the Fondation Alliances - MACAAL collection, is currently on loan to the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rabat as part of the artist’s major retrospective.

On view from 29 April to 31 August 2026, the exhibition celebrates one of the leading figures of modern Moroccan art.

We are proud to see works from the MACAAL collection contributing to exhibitions that continue to share Morocco’s artistic heritage with wider audiences.

Sunworshipper. ☀️

At first glance, Sunworshipper in Central Park feels like a quiet moment of rest. But through this seemingly simple scene, Billie Zangewa Billie Zangewa offers a subtle reflection on femininity, transforming an ordinary moment into a quiet manifesto. Depicting a woman reclining in Central Park, she celebrates a female presence that embraces softness, vulnerability, and ease in public space.

Created from her signature silk patchwork, the work transforms fragments of fabric into a luminous narrative, elevating the everyday into something both intimate and powerful.

Looking closely, asking questions, and creating together.

During this workshop, children first explored Under Destruction alongside artist Ismail Alaoui Fdili, discovering the ideas and stories behind the exhibition through a guided visit.
Inspired by what they had seen, they then took part in a hands-on workshop.

At MACAAL, workshops extend the exhibition experience by encouraging curiosity, dialogue, and artistic expression.

A glimpse into the opening of Le Temps d’un Battement de Cils (In the Blink of an Eye) presented by MACAAL in collaboration with the Institut Francais as part of the inaugural edition of Photo Tanger.

The exhibition reveals a rarely seen aspect of Daoud Aoulad-Syad’s photographic practice through a selection of colour photographs, many of them exhibited for the first time.

For more than three decades, Aoulad-Syad has documented everyday life across Morocco with remarkable proximity and sensitivity. Rooted in analogue photography, his work captures street performers, marketplaces, neighbourhoods and ordinary encounters, revealing the quiet rhythms and vitality of daily life.

Conceived as a journey through the artist’s universe, the exhibition unfolds across three thematic sections, Sa7a (The Square), Znika (The Alley) and Kisarya (The Market Gallery)., before concluding with a film by the artist, extending his singular gaze from photography into cinema.

The exhibition is on view at Galerie Delacroix, Tangier, until 31 August 2026. We look forward to welcoming you.
