Known for his powerful black-and-white photography, Daoud Aoulad-Syad Aoulad-syad Daoud reveals a rarely seen side of his practice in Le Temps d’un Battement de Cil (In the Blink of an Eye) through a selection of colour photographs.

For more than three decades, the artist has documented everyday life in Morocco, focusing on street performers, travelling entertainers and ordinary people. His images are rooted in proximity, capturing gestures, encounters and fleeting moments of daily life.

Presented as part of the inaugural edition of Photo Tanger PHOTO TANGER the exhibition brings together a new selection of colour photographs that offer another perspective on the artist’s long-standing exploration of Moroccan popular culture.

At Galerie Delacroix the scenography conceived by Sara Ayoub Sara unfolds as a journey through spaces inspired by the rhythms of the street, inviting visitors to wander through Daoud Aoulad-Syad’s universe.

As part of MACAAL Hors Les Murs, our programme of projects beyond the museum walls, MACAAL is pleased to present Le Temps d’un Battement de Cil (In the Blink of an Eye), a solo exhibition by Daoud Aoulad-Syad Aoulad-syad Daoud

Presented as part of the inaugural edition of Photo Tanger PHOTO TANGER the exhibition will be on view at Galerie Delacroix from 17 June to 31 August 2026.

Organised in partnership with the French Institute of Tangier and with the support of Fondation Alliances, partner of the festival.

It is with deep sadness that we learned of the passing of Saâd Hassani.

For more than five decades, Saâd Hassani devoted his life to painting, developing a singular body of work shaped by a constant exploration of form, colour, material and movement. Throughout his career, he remained deeply committed to creation, continually renewing his artistic language while staying true to his vision.

We will remember an artist of great sensitivity, whose work will continues to resonate across generations and remains an important part of Morocco’s artistic landscape.

In 2021, Fondation Alliances had the privilege of celebrating his work through the retrospective exhibition In Praise of Shadow (Éloge de l’ombre). Today, we look back on that exhibition with gratitude, remembering both the artist and the remarkable body of work he leaves behind.

Our heartfelt thoughts are with his family, loved ones, and all those whose lives he touched.

With Crazy Lines, Yassine Balbzioui transforms the staircase of MACAAL into a dense and theatrical visual world, where masked figures, absurd scenes, and fragmented narratives unfold between movement and stillness.
Conceived specifically for the museum, the site specific installation combines mural painting, oil on canvas, and sculptural framing, allowing images to spill beyond their limits and into the architecture itself. The visitor becomes both passerby and observer, navigating a universe suspended between humor, tension, and performance.
Masks are a recurring element in Balbzioui’s practice, become a way of exploring the roles we play, identities and performances.
Produced during the artist’s residency at MACAAL, Crazy Lines turns a transitional space into an inhabited one, inviting us not only to pass through, but to pause, look closer, and enter the artist’s singular cosmology.

A historic moment for Moroccan contemporary art. 🇲🇦

For the first time, Morocco has a national pavilion at the 61st International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia.

Titled Asǝṭṭa, the project is conceived by artist Amina Agueznay and curated by Meriem Berrada under the commission of Mohamed Benyacoub.

At MACAAL, this milestone resonates deeply. Amina Agueznay has held a special place in our history through numerous exhibitions, collaborations, and works from our collection. Seeing her represent Morocco on this international stage, alongside our Artistic Director Meriem Berrada, is both meaningful and inspiring.

Asǝṭṭa unfolds as a monumental exploration of memory, transmission, craftsmanship, and material knowledge. Bringing together 166 artisans from across Morocco, the project reflects a collective approach to creation rooted in dialogue, gesture, and shared knowledge, in Minor Keys, a quietly powerful response to this year’s Biennale theme, curated by the late and esteemed Koyo Kouoh.

MACAAL OFFSITE — DIASPORA WONERLAND

As part of MACAAL Offsite, our ongoing program of projects beyond the museum walls, Diaspora Wonderland takes place in Toulouse during Le Nouveau Printemps, curated this year by actress

Presented as a collaboration between MACAAL and Das Relais Diaspora Wonderland is an itinerant project conceived by Lotfi Aoulad and co-curated with Meriem Berrada and Clément Postec

Bringing together the works of Pilar Albarracín Sophia Kacimi and Nassim Azarzar the exhibition explores the cultural richness of Afro-Mediterranean diasporas and the ways these stories continue to shape communities across generations and borders.

The opening will take place on May 28, and the exhibition will remain on view throughout the festival until June 29.

Filmmaker Sarah Mounia Kachiri introduces “Chants de l’insolation, mémoires en lumière” (Chants of Insolation, Memories in Light), a new film cycle presented by MACAAL and the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech

Inspired by the current exhibition Seven Contours, One Collection, and more specifically by the Decolonize room, this selection of four films extends the reflections opened within the exhibition space through cinema.

Questions of memory, transmission, decolonial narratives and representation unfold across the screenings, each followed by conversations and discussions.
