Aung Myint | CLASH

Working with a reduced yet highly charged palette, Aung Myint constructs surfaces where color and gesture take precedence over narrative. Recurrent figures and direct gazes appear throughout the paintings, creating a sense of continuity across the works while maintaining an underlying intensity. Rather than guiding the viewer toward a fixed interpretation, the compositions remain open, shaped by rhythm, repetition, and the artist's intuitive process.

CLASH will be on view at Supples Gallery from 9 May to 12 July 2026.

We are honored to invite you to the opening reception of CLASH, a highly anticipated solo exhibition by Myanmar contemporary master Aung Myint.

In CLASH, painting becomes a site of confrontation. Moving beyond traditional boundaries, Aung Myint contrasts high-pressure, gestural acrylic canvases with the quiet permanence of his new, limited-edition bronze sculptures.

Join the artist’s representatives for an evening of profound artistic dialogue and Southeast Asian contemporary art.

Aung Myint (b. 1946, Yangon) is a leading figure in Myanmar's contemporary art scene. Working across painting, installation, and performance, his practice is known for its expressive, gesture-driven approach and independence from formal constraints. His acclaimed Mother & Child series (2002-2008) brought him international recognition, alongside the ASEAN Art Award in 2002.

His works have been exhibited widely across Asia, Europe, and the
United States, and are held in major collections including the Solomon
R. Guggenheim Museum and Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of
Modern Art.

In CLASH, painting becomes a site of confrontation. Color, form, and gesture do not settle into harmony; they push against one another. The Sea Art Gallery and Supples Gallery are honored to present "CLASH," a solo exhibition by pioneering Myanmar contemporary artist Aung Myint. Curated by Mike Thukha Kyaw, this exhibition invites you to stand within the tension of forceful brushstrokes and uncompromising visual pressure.
