35 years ago today, on the 2nd of December 1989 on a stormy winter day, the Malta summit ended the Cold War. The leaders of the two world superpowers, the USA and the USSR, have declared an end to the Cold War after two days of storm-lashed talks at the Malta summit. Both Superpowers had a battle cruiser berthed at Marsaxlokk Bay, protecting a fragile line between peace and aggression.

In the picture below, in the background, one can see a natural pristine Delimara and a developing Marsaxlokk. On the forefront, one can notice the newly built freeport platform where the meetings were held, protected by USS Belknap and the Soviet Cruiser Slava.
