WIZ Xutu Tower

WIZ Xutu Tower This page is all about Torri Xutu, the watch tower in Wied iz-Zurrieq. Come and visit us! We will be opening post-Covid in June 2021

Xutu Tower in Wied iż-Zurrieq was built during the reign of Grand Master Jean Paul Lascaris de Castellar, probably in 1648. After its role in the military, it was used as a Police Station till 2002 after which it fell into disuse. Din l-Art Ħelwa, National Trust of Malta, was given guardianship in 2013 and it is now opened on a regular basis by volunteers. It is also a popular site for personal an

d corporate events. Read more about its history here: https://dinlarthelwa.org/heritage-sites/managed-heritage-sites/xutu-tower/

Visitors to the Xutu Tower are greeted by our friendly volunteers, and given a little information about the tower and it's history. For those more interested - we hand out multi-lingual information sheets for their perusal. We have them in 13 languages already. To conserve and promote our heritage, we do this and more. See you at Xutu. Entrance is free. A small donation would be most welcome.

This room is on the first floor of the tower, and originally it was the only entrance. The Toriero, a professional soldier, had the help of 2 local lads, and they had to use a rope-ladder to enter the tower. The iron hooks you see on the walls, were for the hammocks they used to sleep on. Why not come and visit this tower ? We're open daily from 10.00am till noon, and Fridays till 2.00pm.
