St John's Co-Cathedral

St John's Co-Cathedral This is the official page of St John’s Co-Cathedral, a gem of Baroque art & architecture built as the conventual church for the Knights of St John

Commissioned in 1572 by Grand Master Jean de la Cassière as the conventual church of the Order of the Knights Hospitaller of St John and designed by the celebrated Maltese military architect Gerolamo Cassar, St John’s Co-Cathedral stands as a unique monument of international importance. The church is dedicated to St John the Baptist, the patron saint of the Order. Today, St John’s is also a venue

for cultural events and is one of the most popular cultural attractions visited by tourists in Malta. It is administered by the St John’s Co-Cathedral Foundation, which was set up in 2001 to ensure the church's and museum’s conservation. Closures

The Museum is currently closed for its extension and refurbishment. The 'Meet Caravaggio' docu-drama is temporarily unavailable for viewing due to works in the area. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

🇲🇹🙏 llum niċċelebraw il-Festa tat-Twelid ta’ San Ġwann il-Battista, il-patrun tal-Konkatidral ta’ San Ġwann.

Bħala parti minn din il-festa, it-tim tagħna ngħaqad għal quddiesa għall-istaff, u wara għal ikla flimkien, fejn iċċelebrajna mhux biss il-patrun tagħna, iżda wkoll l-ispirtu ta’ komunità li jinsab fil-qalba tal-Konkatidral.

Nawguraw il-festa t-tajba lil kulħadd!

🇬🇧🙏 Today, we celebrate the Feast of the Nativity of St John the Baptist, patron saint of St John's Co-Cathedral.

As part of the celebrations, our team gathered for a staff Mass and a shared dinner, celebrating not only our patron saint but also the sense of community that lies at the heart of St John's.

Wishing everyone a blessed feast!

Il-kunċert speċjali li se jsir fil-Konkatidral ta’ San Ġwann fl-4 ta’ Lulju se jkun immexxi mill-Maestro Massimo Palombella, li kien ukoll is-surmast tal-Kor tal-Kappella Sistina.

Tul il-karriera distinta tiegħu, il-Maestro Palombella ddedika ruħu għall-istudju u l-eżekuzzjoni tal-mużika sagra, mexxa korijiet ta’ fama internazzjonali u ta kontribut sinifikanti għall-preservazzjoni ta’ din it-tradizzjoni mużikali ta' sinifikat.

Nistennew bil-ħerqa li nilqgħu lis-Schola Cantorum Venerandae Fabricae ta’ Milan u lill-Maestro Palombella fil-Konkatidral ta’ San Ġwann għal serata ta’ mużika sagra f’dan l-ambjent straordinarju.

🇲🇹 Il-Konkatidral ta’ San Ġwann kellu l-pjaċir jilqa’ lil Dr Malcolm Paul Agius Galea għall-esebizzjoni ‘SETTE GIUGNO 1919. Memory & Ritual’, fl-ewwel żjara uffiċjali tiegħu bħala Ministru għall-Arti, il-Kultura u l-Wirt Nazzjonali.

Milqugħ mill-uffiċjali tal-Konkatidral, Dr Agius Galea ngħata tagħrif dwar l-artifatti esebiti u s-sinifikat storiku u kulturali tagħhom. Iż-żjara enfasizzat ukoll il-valur tal-kollezzjoni fil-preservazzjoni tal-memorja kollettiva tas-Sette Giugno u l-wirt marbut ma’ dan l-avveniment storiku.

🇬🇧 St John's Co-Cathedral was pleased to welcome Dr Malcolm Paul Agius Galea for a visit to the exhibition ‘SETTE GIUGNO 1919. Memory & Ritual’, on his first official visit as Minister for the Arts, Culture and National Heritage.

Welcomed by officials of the Co-Cathedral, Dr Agius Galea was guided through the exhibition and its artefacts, gaining insight into their historical and cultural significance. The visit also highlighted the value of the collection in preserving the collective memory of the Sette Giugno and the heritage associated with this important historical event.
