We’ve just completed two new pieces here at Inner Luz Studios.
Felipe has installed a new wall wood sculpture titled “Voces del Árbol”, and I have framed and hung my newest oil/bird painting “Call of the Cacique.”
Both pieces are now on view in our home gallery here in La Manzanilla.

Guardian for New Life.
This Primavera wood sculpture, over six feet tall on its Parota base, will soon be installed in the garden atrium of Costalegre Clínica de Maternidad, La Manzanilla, Jalisco.

Carved by hand from a single trunk, it was created to hold presence — to offer calm, strength, and grounding for all who pass through this sacred space of birth, healing, and renewal.
Felipe’s sculptural work follows the curves and grain of each tree, allowing the form to emerge in quiet dialogue between hand, heart, and wood.

Guardián para una nueva vida.
Esta escultura de madera de primavera, de más de seis pies de altura con su base de parota, pronto será colocada en el atrio-jardín de la Clínica de Maternidad Costalegre, La Manzanilla, Jalisco.
Tallada completamente a mano a partir de un solo tronco, fue creada para sostener presencia — para ofrecer calma, fortaleza y arraigo a quienes atraviesan este espacio de nacimiento, sanación y renovación.
El trabajo escultórico de Felipe sigue las curvas naturales y la veta de cada árbol, permitiendo que la forma emerja como un diálogo entre la mano, el corazón y la madera.

Back in the studio this week, I’ve been working with tiles again— revisiting and refining designs that resonated during the last season.
De regreso al estudio esta semana, he estado trabajando nuevamente con azulejos — retomando y refinando diseños que resonaron durante la última temporada.

This process is helping me build momentum for what comes next: a new body of work is quietly forming — the Guardian series.
Este proceso me está ayudando a tomar impulso para lo que viene: una nueva serie se está gestando en silencio — la serie de Guardianes.

Each tile piece begins with a drawing, design is transferred onto tile, carved by hand using the sgraffito technique, and glazed slowly and intentionally.
Cada pieza comienza con un dibujo, se transfiere al barro, se talla a mano con la técnica de esgrafiado y se esmalta con lentitud e intención.

These current tiles echo favorite designs and palettes that sold out this past temporada, but also serve as part of a larger shift — as I explore new directions with deeper carving and storytelling.
Estas azulejos son parte de reconstruir mi inventario, pero también reflejan un cambio más amplio — mientras exploro nuevas direcciones con tallado más profundo y más narrativa visual.

They’ll be fired once the next kiln load is ready — in the meantime, they hold quiet promise.
Serán horneadas cuando esté listo el próximo lote — mientras tanto, guardan una promesa silenciosa.

Parota in Place
These custom sofa and bedside tables were designed by Felipe for a home in our coastal village.
Crafted from locally sourced Parota, they reflect the natural beauty of the land they came from—elegant, balanced, and grounded in place.

Each piece is created with intention: soft curves, aligned grain, silky-smooth surfaces, and a hand-rubbed finish of oils and beeswax. Every detail quietly speaks of care and skill.

Felipe collaborates one-on-one with local clients to design custom furniture for homes being reimagined here on the coast.

Estas mesas personalizadas para sofá y cama fueron diseñadas por Felipe para una casa en nuestro pueblo costero.

Meet Felipe Arellano, the quiet force behind the woodwork at Inner Luz Studios. His hands — steady, patient, and precise — shape the stories of our land into custom furniture and sculpture that feels alive with intention.

Whether carving a form or building a table, Felipe works with local hardwoods like Parota and Primavera, always guided by the nature of the material itself.

Soft Witnesses: A Farewell Look

This series began in 2024, born of memory and love- inspired by my time living with goats in Vermont, and now, being their neighbors here on the Pacific coast of Mexico.

While most of the original paintings have found new homes, two oils canvases remain with me-pieces I am willing to part with if the right connection is made.

There are also prints and tiles still available- and I continue to welcome commissions from those who feel a kindred connection to these quiet, soulful beings.

A chapter is closing gently and something new is taking flight

These goats on a California ranch were recently gifted a tile triptych from my Soft Witnesses series. The reaction? Pure curiosity. They spent time studying their painted kin, one by one — a moment of reflection in more ways than one.
This is what I live for as an artist.
Quiet Connection.
Recognition.
A little humor.
A lot of heart.
