These Catrinas Istmeñas just hit the road today, straight from the woodcarvers’ workshops in Oaxaca, arriving just in time for the Día de Mu***os festivities! 🌼
Their dresses are painted with the iconic bordado de Juchitán, inspired by the embroidered textiles worn by the women of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, one of Mexico’s most vibrant and matriarchal cultures. 💪🏽🌺

Each piece is hand-carved from copal wood, full of color, attitude, and Oaxacan soul. 🇲🇽

💃 Recién llegadas desde Oaxaca!

Estas Catrinas Istmeñas salieron hoy del taller de alebrijes en Oaxaca, justo a tiempalebrijess festividades de Día de Mu***os. 🌼

Sus vestidos están pintados con el icónico bordado de Juchitán, inspirado en los textiles bordados que usan las mujeres del Istmo de Tehuantepec, una de las regiones más vibrantes y matriarcales de México. 💪🏽🌺

Cada pieza está tallada a mano en madera de copal, llena de color, actitud y alma oaxaqueña. 🇲🇽

Fresh from the Sierra of Nayarit! 🌄

These small wooden skulls were hand-carved in the mountains and then yarn-painted by Wixárika (Huichol) artist Eduardo and his wife Hortencia.
Each one is wrapped in hundreds of strands of cotton yarn, carefully pressed into wax with nothing but patience, prayer and tradition.

🌈 One blooms like a desert flower, another spreads its wings, and one swirls like wind over the mountains.
No two will ever be the same - they carry the rhythm of the Sierra.

🌳🦎 Have you met Sayulita’s most iconic locals?

No, not the surfers or the taco guys, we’re talking about the iguanas of the famous tree on Manuel Navarrete Street.
Around midday they climb down to feed, so that’s your best chance to spot them face to face.
Once lunch is over, they head back up for siesta high in the branches, perfectly camouflaged like sleepy ninjas.
We love them so much we turned them into a Laughing Jaguar postcard, because nothing says “I’ve been to Sayulita” like a tree full of sassy sunbathing iguanas.
