在这个喜新厌旧日新夜异的年代里，老的似乎就是不好的该被淘汰换新的。

但大家有没有觉得，年年出炉一大箩新年歌固然有新意，但最耐听的依旧是那些最传统的老歌呢？

是的，老的未必是过时的。尤其传统的文化里，有很多老物件特别的玩味也历久不衰。这个新年，我们Art House Gallery at Central Market ＜集珍庄画廊 ＞将特别展出一系列与我们中国旧社会有着息息相关的一些古董与文物。这些小玩意未必是很珍贵或值钱的东西，但在马来西亚的华人，似乎与中国大陆的华人在传统文化上渐行渐远，年轻一代也似乎不热衷于收藏之。市面上也不容易看到这些古物了。
由于小玩意太多，我们会陆续拍照刊登于此并试图注明其用意。希望大家不要与传统中国文化脱节哟！

CHINESE WATERCOLOR MASTERPIECES : A 35-YEAR RETROSPECTIVE

The Art House Gallery has been at the forefront of introducing Chinese watercolor works to Malaysian audience since 1991. 35 years on, we proudly present a landmark retrospective celebrating the remarkable artists who have shaped and enriched our local art scene through both solo and group exhibitions.
We have all the while maintained our curatorial focus by selecting: 1) artists that are affiliated with reputable art academies/ institutions, and 2) those whose works have been selected / won awards in major art shows/competitions in Mainland China.

A noteworthy mention is the inclusion of 4 artists from the top 30 watercolorists featured in the official < Chinese Watercolors Part 1 & 2 >published by Shanghai Art Press in year 2000, These esteemed artists----Bei Xumin, Liu Yi, Wang Yong and Ping Long---represent the pinnacle of contemporary Chinese watercolor. Equally notable are artists that have won major awards---Hu Shengqi & Chen Haining. Collectors and art enthusiasts will find 60 exceptional works on display, and they are for sale too.
What makes this show especially interesting is how different they are from their Malaysian counterparts, not just in subject matter, but also in technique, style, medium and concept. They offer quite a different aesthetic experience and creative challenge to both Malaysian artists and collectors.

And herein lies the pleasant surprise. Despite their stature, their prices are on par with their Malaysian contemporaries. The reason being, we have not adjusted their prices as compared to 20-35 years ago. While we acknowledge some of the artists have since passed away, others have become very famous, even achieved international recognition hence may fetch very high prices---yet we've chosen to pass on this goodwill and genuine opportunity to Malaysian buyers. Whether you're looking to invest or simply to beautify your walls, these pieces are of very high quality, and excellent value for money.

Art House Gallery is conducting a super duper mega sale of abstract works from today onwards till Thursday only ( Oct 16 ).

Never mind the artists' names, some works dont even have a signature. But good art is good art---perhaps not for collectors, but for people who just wish to buy very affordable art of quality, be it for home decor, office, or showroom even hotels---this is the perfect opportunity!

A GEM OF AN ART FORM

Thailand is a global leader in gemstone cutting. Yet the tradition extends beyond jewelry to unique artforms like Gemstone Art ( Gemstone Painting), whereby skilled artisans meticulously arrange tiny colorful gemstone chips to form intricate images on a reverse glass surface.

The process begins with collection of "tailings" from gemstone factories, often containing semi-precious stones like rubies and sapphires. These fragments are then sieved, crushed, polished and carefully sorted out by color before being entrusted to artisans.

With featherlight touch, each chip is cut, placed and secured with glue. Even the simplest piece requires weeks of patient dedication, while larger, more intricate works are true labors of devotion that may take months to complete.

The motifs are deeply rooted in Thai culture, vividly portraying traditional trades, classical dances, ornate costumes, headdresses, and jewelry that feature Thai royalty, courtesans, musicians, monks and even mythical beings. Each piece is an artistic and cultural statement.

This distinguish collection of 12 gemstone paintings was acquired from a single collector who has kept them for half a century until now. No doubt the art is still alive in Thailand today. Nevertheless, the sheer draughtsmanship skills of yesteryears will probably never be surpassed by the current generation. Hence, what was once regarded as craftwork has somewhat been elevated into a realm of vintage collectibles, prized for their cultural and heritage value.

What makes this art form truly unique is its eternal quality. The natural hues and vibrancy of the gemstones will never fade, requiring little to no upkeep, allowing each piece to be cherished for a lifetime!

FROM YUNNAN TO MALAYSIA---An Odyssey of Art and Poetry

Zhang Changli, born 1956 in Dali city, Yunnan province, is one lucky artist given the riches of ethnic minority tribes residing there, offering him an abundance of subject matter.
In 2018, he came to Malaysia for the first time at the invitation of our gallery, and did a series on fishing villages along the West Coast of Peninsular Malaysia. In 2019, he came again, this time to Sabah, specifically to Mabul Island, and did a splendid series on the seafaring Bajau people.
This year, he came for the third time, to Penang.
From Yunnan to Malaysia represents Zhang 's entire painting career spanning over 5 decades. His finesse and artistry need no further introduction, and poetry with emotion flows through his works effortlessly and effluently. Without doubt, these picturesque works is as good as it gets, and given his seniority, such pricing is a steal and a great gift to Malaysian art lovers! The culmination of his 3 visits and journeying in Yunnan is presented here in this first batch of arrival.

Those who are interested can either come to our gallery, or buy them online here. There are only 2 sizes. Size 1 ( 53 x 38 cm ) is priced RM 2000, and size 2 ( 28 x 38 cm ) only RM 1000.
