Malay Living Museum on the banks of Malacca River
Villa Sentosa Melaka is a fine example of a traditional Malay village house located in Kampung Morten, on the banks of the Malacca River within walking distance of the historic UNESCO World Heritage district of Melaka City. Villa Sentosa is perhaps the most attractive and best preserved of all the houses in Kampung Morten and it now serves as a private museum and is open to the public. It is known as The Malay Living Museum.
The house itself is made up of five interconnected pavilions surrounding an open air courtyard, a design which helps to keep the house cool while creating a cosy atmosphere for the residents.
Villa Sentosa is also known as the Malay Living Museum as it exhibits the typical lifestyle of a rich Malaysian family in the early 20th century and showcase a traditional Malay house setup. Though Malacca town has developed rapidly in the last decade, Villa Sentosa is carefully preserved in its traditional style.
It’s an opportunity to wander through a genuine kampung house and witness the tradition and culture of Malaysia. It is also a venue that can be rented out for meetings and gatherings for those who want a feel of a typical kampung house.
