Young, Fresh N’ New - Suchet Baba

Suchet Baba is a writer, painter, and festival director whose interdisciplinary practice moves between storytelling, painting, and material experimentation.

Working with vivid colour, symbolic form, and intuitive composition, she creates emotionally charged paintings that explore the space between the mystical and the personal. Her works draw from ancestry, spirituality, and self-discovery, constructing visual languages that articulate what often resists words.

Influenced by rhythm, atmosphere, and narrative structure, Baba’s practice invites viewers into layered spaces where the personal and ancestral converge.

What does colour reveal when language falls short?

Young, Fresh N’ New - Emmanuel Chidube

Born in Lagos in 1996, Chidube Emmanuel explores the mundanity of day-to-day living and shared collective experiences. Working from life, photos, and memory, his muted palette and simplified rendering style evoke a profound sense of nostalgia.

From traditional painting techniques to committing to full-time practice in 2021, Chidube captures figures in urban spaces, interiors, portraits of friends and family, and occasional still life subjects.

His work asks: what beauty exists in the ordinary? What stories live in the spaces we inhabit daily?

In Young, Fresh N’ New, Chidube’s paintings become portals to remembered moments; intimate, quiet, and deeply human.

Young, Fresh N’ New - Traci Johnson

Born in New York City, now based in Brooklyn, Johnson transforms the language of sanctuary into vibrant environments of q***r liberation and embodied healing.

Working in textiles, Johnson’s practice centers on construction, deconstruction, and reconstruction as symbolic pathways toward selfhood. Recent commissions include the Safe Space Installation for MTA/Chashama at the 50th Street Subway Station.

Her work has been exhibited at the Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD), Canada Gallery, and Moore College of Art and Design.

In Young, Fresh N’ New, Johnson brings narrative-rich textile works that invite viewers into their journeys of clarity and rebirth.

Meet Ifeoluwase Taiwo

is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans visual art, music, and contemporary cultural storytelling.

Working primarily in black and white, he creates surreal, symbol-driven imagery that explores identity, memory, and emotional psychology. His work bridges visual composition with sonic and narrative experimentation, reflecting an interest in the intersections between art, community, and emerging African futurisms.

Wase’s images resist literal reading, they invite interpretation, reflection, and the kind of slow looking that reveals layered meanings.

What stories do symbols tell when freed from linear narrative?

Wunika Mukan Gallery happily presents Young, Fresh, N’ New.

“Young, Fresh, N’ New” is not positioned as a singular statement, but as a convergence of distinct voices navigating the urgency of now. The exhibition considers youth not simply as age, but as a condition—fluid, searching, self-defining.

The show brings together , , , , , , , , —artists whose practices reflect intimacy, experimentation, and a deep commitment to image-making as a mode of inquiry.

Taken together, Young, Fresh, N’ New proposes a generation not waiting for permission, but actively shaping its own visual language; assertive, reflective, and in constant formation.

We look forward to welcoming you.

Inside Hypnagogia: A conversation with Blossom Oyeyipo.

In these quiet reflections, Oyeyipo traces the inner world of the exhibition, moving through memory, myth, and the liminal space between waking and dreaming.

Across the series, Irin emerges as a mythic presence, navigating shifting dreamscapes rooted in childhood and shaped by a sense of unease, duality, and becoming.
