UP Editions is dedicated to selling, promoting and exhibiting documentary photography through its online platform, grant and pop-up exhibitions. The purpose of UP Editions:
• Promote documentary photography
Our focus is to identify, promote and reward excellence in documentary photography.
• Shed light on social issues
We believe that documentary photography is a vital way to shed light on soci
al issues around the world that wouldn’t be known otherwise. People are eager to know more about worldwide issues and are accustomed to discover them in magazines, on the Internet, or in books. While museums and fine art fairs have recently been giving a well-deserved prominence to documentary photography, UP Editions will raise awareness of social issues by making them available to all. This will help photographers to shoot more of the work that moves us.
• Award grants and scholarships
UP Editions will award 5% of its total profits to projects selected by the UP Editions team. At the end of each year, an open call for submission will take place and anyone who wishes to complete a project related to documentary photography will have the opportunity to send its application. As examples, the grant could be awarded to a photographer to support the continuation of a project or to a student in need of a scholarship to study photography. The approach of UP Editions:
• Represent both established and emerging photographers work
For its first edition, there will be a total of approximately 15 photographers presented: 4 confirmed photographers and 11 emerging photographers. The established photographers will set the standard of the level of the work UP Editions is looking for. A call for submissions will be launched inviting emerging photographers to send their best work. UP Editions will do the pre-selection and the final selection will be curated by a panel of industry professionals (art collectors, art dealers, the established photographers and the UP Editions team). The final selection will be presented online and at pop-up exhibitions at the end of the selection process.
• Present extensive infomation about each photographer
Each month, visitors will get to know two photographers intimately. In this feature, UP Editions will share exclusive content, interviews, stories behind the photographs with its followers through; newsletters, Facebook and website.
• Organise pop-up exhibitions in Latin America and Europe
UP Editions will present the work of its selected photographers at pop-up exhibitions at the beginning of each new edition. The pop-up exhibitions will take place in Latin America (Brazil, Colombia, Argentina and Mexico) and Europe. Because Latin America has a growing interest for art, a growing economy, and a young population.
• Sell books
UP Editions will not only sell photographic prints. Photographers will be able to sell their books on our website.
