Over here you see a petrified wood table from Arizona, dating back to the Triassic Period. It comes from an Araucaria tree, also known as the monkey puzzle tree.

What makes this piece so special is that the wood has completely transformed into quartz over millions of years, making it even harder than steel. There are no wood cells left anymore, which is why it works perfectly as a table.

Next to it, you see petrified wood trays from Indonesia. These are around 15 million years old, much softer, and therefore less suitable for furniture compared to the Arizona pieces.

Thank you for watching The Origin of Art ⭐️

This remarkable piece of petrified wood comes from eastern Germany, near Leipzig. What makes it especially unusual is the layer of quartz crystals that formed on top of the wood after it had already petrified around 35 million years ago. Its rich brown colour comes from being found near a lignite quarry in the region.

Today, no new pieces can be collected from the site, as the former quarry has been flooded and transformed into a harbor, making the area inaccessible for collecting.

Spanish pyrite in its purest form, perfect 90° cubes, untouched and naturally brilliant. Still resting in its matrix, exactly as it formed millions of years ago.

This piece weighs about 550 kilos and is one of the largest, and most special, specimens we have.
Roy bought it many years ago in Brazil, when he actually purchased the entire pocket where it was found.

When the miners tried to remove it from the mine, it broke at this point. That’s why we mounted it on this metal base, to show how the crystal originally looked before it broke.

Brazilian crystal with the Dutch morning sun, what more do you need?

A quiet morning, coffee in hand, and a 50-million-year-old statement piece catching the light. This is how design lives in the modern home.

Needless to say, it isn’t for sale.

This multicolour tourmaline crystal is one of the most special pieces in my collection. It belonged to my father, and I’ve always kept it, I’ve never considered selling it. To me, it’s a keepsake, a way of holding on to his memory, and to your grandfather’s as well.

Our business has its roots in Brazil, where he lived for sixteen years. It was there that he acquired this crystal, one of his very first purchases in the country. He later brought it back with him, which makes it all the more meaningful.

So, as I said, it’s not for sale.

Born in the frozen depths of Siberia 🙌🏼

This beautifully shaped mammoth tusk is over 50,000 years old. Its unique color variations are a hallmark of Siberian mammoth ivory, remarkably preserved thanks to being locked in ice for millennia, where the finest tusks are found.

Today I’m giving you a glimpse into how a rock dealer lives.

From the entrance to the living room, stones and crystals are everywhere. One of my favourite pieces is this rough banded iron formation. In the windows, I place crystals so the sunlight can shine through them, the play of light always makes me happy.

Even everyday objects are stone, like this petrified wood tray that works perfectly as a small side table. In the gallery we have crystals in every colour, shape, and size people could wish for, but these are my personal favourites.

This raw crystal cluster from Arkansas is completely natural, untouched, unpolished, and uncut.

I remember when first noticed it at the show we were doing, and then months later came to the gallery asking, “Do you still have that piece?” Luckily, it was still waiting and now it looks incredible in the interiors of in the heart of Amsterdam 🙌🏼
