About Marzee

Founded in 1978 in Nijmegen in the Netherlands, Galerie Marzee is one of the principal promoters of international contemporary jewellery and silverware. Since 1995 the gallery has been housed in a former granary on Nijmegen’s waterfront, overlooking the River Waal. With 850 square metres of exhibition space, Galerie Marzee is one of the largest galleries in the Netherlands and the la

rgest gallery for modern art jewellery in the world. Alongside the permanent Marzee Collection, Galerie Marzee typically mounts four to five special, temporary exhibitions every 2 months (see our Exhibitions page on www.galeriemarzee.com for a list of current and forthcoming exhibitions). The gallery is unique in its support for emerging young jewellery artists and our annual, international Marzee Graduate Show (which runs from August to October) is one of the most significant events in Marzee's calendar. Marzee Collection

In June 2004, in celebration of Marzee's 25th anniversary, Galerie Marzee opened the Marzee Collection to the public. This permanent collection, displayed on the fourth floor of the gallery, comprises over 2000 pieces of jewellery acquired since 1979. The collection includes work by some of the most influential jewellery artists of the late twentieth century as well as pieces by young, new makers. This seminal collection of international contemporary jewellery also features a series of combs created by renowned jewellers for a Marzee exhibition in 1989. Following the success of this pioneering project the exhibition later travelled among others to Japan, Germany, Italy and Switzerland, bringing the gallery international recognition. Marzee Prize

The annual Marzee Graduate Prize is awarded to the most promising of the students who are selected for participation in the Marzee Graduate Show. The prizewinners are offered a week-long workshop at Atelier Ravary in Belgium and the opportunity to exhibit the work produced during the following year’s graduate show. INTRO by Marzee

At Marzee's 40-year anniversery, Intro was established. INTRO by Marzee is a new and unique gallery focused exclusively on emerging jewellery artists. Intro provides a space for recently graduated jewellery students to show and sell their work for a period of three years. It will be managed, in three-year cycles, by graduates and/or undergraduates from international schools and academies. Students and alumni from the Jewelry + Metalsmithing department at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in Providence, USA, are managing the gallery for the inaugural three-year period. Rudolf Kocéa has devoted himself to creating a surprising new collection in his studio. His work initially seems to come about effortlessly, almost nonchalantly. However, closer inspection reveals exceptional craftsmanship and deep insight, despite his lighthearted attitude toward the process.

Junxue Lan (CN), Erle Nemvalts (EE), Miles Robinson (UK) and Taavi Teevet (EE) - four winners of the 2023 Marzee Graduate Prize - were invited for a workshop at the estate Ravary in the Ardennes in Belgium in 2024, together with Annelies Planteijdt (NL).
Until 15 March 2025 their exhibition Atelier Ravary can be seen at Galerie Marzee.

In September 2024, the winners of the Marzee Graduate Prize 2023 were invited to participate in a week-long workshop at the Ravary estate in Belgium. Each time, Ravary provides participants with an inspiring environment and a workshop full of tools and materials for them to work with. Annelies Planteijdt accompanied the workshop and calls it ‘an intense and beautiful feast’. She says: ‘It’s a small big world, or a big small one, just how you look at it, a life within a life.’ The hospitality and freedom that Liesbeth and Marzee offer is a fantastic big gift.’
