Het Nederlands Fotomuseum is het nationale museum voor de fotografie met een indrukwekkende fotocollectie van zo'n 5,6 miljoen beelden. Naast tentoonstellingen met grote namen uit de Nederlandse en internationale fotografiewereld, toont het museum met regelmaat werk uit de eigen collectie. You’ll find the museum in the Santos warehouse, a former coffee warehouse. This modern museum looks after more than 6.5 million photographic images, making it one of the largest photography collections in the world. 🤩

Besides the permanent Gallery of Honour, there are also changing exhibitions to check out. And with a café and library too, there’s a lot to see… 👀

Photographer Pai Dekkers (.en.co) grew up with a father who is a biologist, which instilled in him a scientific way of seeing the world and a deep respect for all living things. In 2019, he began his project on seaweed and blueprints, revealing the surprising richness of forms and species found in Dutch seaweed.

Alongside his photographic practice, he works as a data manager for the Naturalis Biodiversity Center. For Pai, caring for nature is inseparable from caring for ourselves – an idea he seeks to echo through his work.

Discover Pai’s cyanotypes in person and plan your visit to the museum. ‘Awakening in Blue’ is on view until 7 June, don’t miss out.

🇳🇱 Fotograaf Pai Dekkers (.en.co) groeide op met een vader als bioloog, die hem een wetenschappelijke blik en respect voor al het leven meegaf. In 2019 startte hij zijn project rond zeewier en blauwdrukken, waarmee hij de verrassende rijkdom aan vormen en soorten van Nederlandse zeewieren zichtbaar maakt.

Naast zijn fotografisch werk is hij datamanager collectie-informatie bij Naturalis Biodiversity Center. Voor Pai is zorg voor de natuur onlosmakelijk verbonden met zorg voor onszelf – een idee dat hij met zijn werk wil laten doorklinken.

Bewonder Pai’s cyanotypes in het echt en plan je museumbezoek. ‘Ontwaken in Blauw’ is nog te zien t/m 7 juni, mis het niet.

On view at the Nederlands Fotomuseum from 26 June: ‘Quickscan 3: Photography Now’.

In this new exhibition, twenty photographers and visual artists working in the Netherlands come together. Their work offers a view of the current state of photography in the Netherlands and shows how the medium continues to take on new forms.

From photobooks, films and archives to installations, performances, digital technologies and artificial intelligence: Quickscan 3 shows how broadly photography is used, shared and questioned today.

🇳🇱 Vanaf 26 juni te zien in het Nederlands Fotomuseum: ‘Quickscan 3. Fotografie nu’.

In deze nieuwe tentoonstelling komen twintig in Nederland werkzame fotografen en beeldend kunstenaars samen. Hun werk geeft een blik op de actuele stand van fotografie in Nederland en laat zien hoe het medium steeds nieuwe vormen aanneemt.

Zondag 7 juni is de laatste dag waarop je ‘Ontwaken in blauw’ kunt bezoeken. Kom langs op de feestelijke afsluiting waar de vertragende werking van de cyanotypietechniek centraal staat.

Doe mee aan een yin slow flow yogasessie, maak je eigen cyanotypie werk, luister naar live muziek van harpist Ranie Ribeiro en sets van DJ Lucas Benjamin of schuif aan bij de artist talk waar kunstenaars uit de tentoonstelling vertellen over hun werk.

Voor sommige programmaonderdelen van de finissage is een ticket nodig. Meer informatie en tickets via de link in bio.

Soms moet je wel een kleur bekennen.

Dus: ren naar deze expositie nu het nog kan. We geven toe dat we misschien een béétje laat zijn met deze tip… maar wat we bedoelen met kleur bekennen zijn natuurlijk de beelden die Rotterdam écht Rotterdam maken.

For ‘Exactitudes’, Ari Versluis and Ellie Uyttenbroek have been spotting people with strikingly similar clothing styles on the streets of cities like Rotterdam, Berlin, Paris and New York City since 1994. They then photograph them in the studio, exactly as they were dressed that day.

The result is a photographic archive of style, identity and urban subcultures. The series reveals how people use clothing to distinguish themselves from others, while at the same time unconsciously becoming part of a group.

On view in the ‘Gallery of Honour of Dutch Photography’ at the Nederlands Fotomuseum.

🇳🇱 Voor ‘Exactitudes’ spotten Ari Versluis en Ellie Uyttenbroek sinds 1994 mensen met opvallend vergelijkbare kledingstijlen op straat in steden als Rotterdam, Berlijn, Parijs en New York. Daarna fotograferen ze hen in de studio, precies zoals ze die dag gekleed waren.

Zo ontstaat een fotografisch archief van stijl, identiteit en stedelijke subculturen. De serie laat zien hoe mensen zich via kleding van elkaar proberen te onderscheiden, maar tegelijkertijd ook onbewust onderdeel worden van een groep.
