Meet Summer Sessions resident !🦋

Ceren Sözer is a Rotterdam-based multimedia artist and researcher whose practice focuses on the fragile infrastructures that sustain everyday life. Through speculative storytelling and research-driven experimentation, she deconstructs cultural narratives to explore where meanings become unstable.

During her Summer Sessions residency, Ceren is developing “This is why you are on the very same side as all the evil in the world”, a choice-based game rethinking where oppression is actually manufactured. Starting from the idea that structural injustice is not merely the work of a few evil leaders, the game looks at how systems of oppression are reproduced in daily encounters by millions of others.

Presented as a deconstructed arcade machine, the work confronts players with a series of small conflicts in which every choice is one between self-protection and repair. Each time a player chooses repair, the curtain slowly opens to reveal the research and diagrams the game is built on — allowing the work itself to become vulnerable in return.

See the work in progress during the Summer Sessions Test_Lab at V2_ on 3 & 4 September.

Meet Summer Sessions resident Nina Anin !☀️

Nina Anin, also ninini.in, is an Amsterdam-based artist working across moving image, performance, installation, text, drawing and digital media. Her practice is playful and often humorous, exploring the sensibilities and estrangements of today’s technological society from an intimate, small-scale perspective.

During her Summer Sessions residency, Nina is developing POV Pilot, a video performance in which game-like characters in cartoonish helmets move through dream-like scenarios such as Aviation Vagabond Taking the Sky and Infinite Sunset Joy Ride. The work draws on the imagination and transmission hidden inside the Transformer statue Guard, located at the skatepark only 50 meters away from V2_.

POV Pilot explores how looking has become hybrid in a world of phones and cameras, where we can be physically present while simultaneously networked to multiple elsewheres. Across two screens, the cinematic result and its making-of unfold at the same time. Producing, directing, performing and looking all become part of the work, blurring the borders between performance, moving image and its production.

See POV Pilot in progress during the Summer Sessions Test_Lab at V2_ on 3 & 4 September.

What happens when individual gestures become part of a shared technological system? 👾

Over the past months, artists Mohsen💤 , Elli Koliniati and Iyo Bisseck have been working together as part of Realities in Transition 2 – Unwritten Worlds, a collaborative residency at V2_ exploring the relationship between XR, AI and worldbuilding.

Their collective process of research, experimentation and co-creation has resulted in The Lambertian Dance, a technosomatic installation in which bodies, gestures and technologies come together to form a shared presence.

Two participants enter the installation together. One person’s hand and the other’s gaze converge, dissolving individual agency into a shared rhythm. Their movement echoes back into the space and becomes part of an evolving lineage of movement.

During Test_Lab, The Lambertian Dance will be demonstrated live and visitors are invited to experience and test the work themselves.

Meet Summer Sessions resident 🎱 ⭐️

Julie van Essen is an interdisciplinary artist who builds immersive installations exploring intangible digital concepts such as algorithms, blockchain, and AI. Blending fashion, technology, and performance, she distorts digital aesthetics into speculative worlds, using glitch and error as tools of resistance against extraction.

During her Summer Sessions residency, Julie is developing The algo[rhythm]ic body, applying Shintaro Miyazaki’s theory of “Counter-Algorhythmics” to her practice. Rather than refusing technology, the project asks what happens when we shift our relationship to digital systems and bend their rhythms towards our own human, biological ones.

For the project, Julie is constructing a latex corset embedded with sensors, reclaiming this historical tool of restriction as a site for embodied resistance. Responding to breath, body movement and stretch, the corset generates a soundscape in which the body acts not as a passive subject, but as an active instrument within the system it inhabits.

See The algo[rhythm]ic body in progress during the Summer Sessions Test_Lab at V2_ on 3 & 4 September.

Meet Summer Sessions resident 🌟

Eunseong Park is a media artist based in South Korea and Germany whose practice looks critically at the digital infrastructures and “black-boxed” devices that have become embedded in everyday life. Through DIY objects, fictional technologies and satire, she questions the systems we have come to accept as natural.

During Summer Sessions, Eunseong is developing Now or Nowhere (2026–), an ongoing project centred around the creation and presentation of satirical, fictional devices. By following the entire process of developing these devices, the project asks a deceptively simple question: does technology actually respond to our needs, or does it continuously create new ones?

You can see Eunseong’s work during our Summer Sessions Test_Lab on Thursday 3 and Friday 4 September at V2_.

What happens when a deepfake algorithm manipulates your image live?👀

Tomorrow evening from 18:00 at Media Art Café, experience a limited-time trial of I M U v3.0 by .vanderlaan

In I M U, a deepfake algorithm manipulates your image live, creating a personal confrontation with the technology. The immersive essay film reflects on the self and the ways our self-image is shaped through technology, drawing on Ubuntu philosophy: “I am related, therefore I am.”
