In a time when automation and artificial intelligence are rapidly transforming the fabric of human labor, You Can’t Automate Me offers a rare and urgent portrait of the embodied knowledge and emotional resilience of industrial workers at the very edge of visibility. Shot at Maasvlakte, the vast, man-made extension of Rotterdam’s harbor—Europe’s largest seaport—the film centers on the lashers: a nearly invisible group of port workers tasked with securing containers using heavy metal bars before ships set sail. They operate within a hyper-automated environment of driverless vehicles and remote-controlled cranes, doing physically intense and dangerous labor in a world increasingly optimized to erase the human.

Kunsthall 3,14, BKFH (Billedkunstnernes fagorganisasjon i Hordaland), VISP (Kompetanse- og nettverksorganisasjonen for det visuelle feltet i Norge) og PAB (Performance Art Bergen) inviterer til en samtale om kunstens rolle og rammevilkår i Norge i dag.

Hva skjer når staten – som i generasjoner har vært kunstens viktigste beskytter – også kan bli en sensurinstans?
Når velferdsstatens kulturmodell svekkes, og kunsten presses inn i instrumentelle logikker som «trender», «nytte», «salgbarhet» eller «oppdrag» for de bevilgende myndigheter? Hvem tjener på at kunsten holdes i avhengighet?
Hvordan kan gallerier som Kunsthall 3,14 og andre bidra til at kunst og kultur ikke bare blir et produkt av systemene?

Mariken Lauvstad, kritiker, kulturkommentator og forfatter av den aktuelle boken Kampen om kunsten – et forsvar for kulturens rolle i demokratiet, som skaper stor debatt i kulturlivet akkurat nå.

Asbjørn Grønstad, professor i visuell kultur, som lenge har arbeidet med kunstens rolle i møte med makt. Grønstad arbeider med tverrfaglige temaer i skjæringspunktet mellom disipliner som filmvitenskap, medieteori, kunsthistorie, filosofi og litteraturvitenskap.

Samtale mellom kunstner Rita Marhaug og kunsthistoriker Sigrun Åsebø i forbindelse med Performance Art Bergen sin publisering av boken Kunst og Frihet – et essay om performancekunsten til Rita Marhaug, skrevet av kunsthistoriker Siri Meyer.
