Studio17 invites you to the exhibition opening of Crude Milk by our current artists in residence, VidAmir (Vida Kashani & Amir Komelizadeh).

🗓 Exhibition opening: Thursday 7 May 18:00–21:00

The exhibition continues Friday and Saturday (8–9 May)

Crude Milk is a multi channel video installation combining moving image, text, sound and sculpture.

The work reflects on what it means to live within an oil nation, materially, psychologically and politically. It explores a central contradiction where welfare and comfort coexist with extraction, dependency and unease.

Drawing on Norse and Iranian mythologies, Crude Milk approaches oil not only as a resource, but as inheritance shaping memory, identity and everyday life.

At its center is a divided voice questioning how one resists a system one also benefits from.

Studio17 Residency
Vida Kashani & Amir Komelizadeh
📅 14.04 — 10.05.2026

Studio17 welcomes VidAmir - Vida Kashani and Amir Komelizadeh, arriving on 14 April!

Originally from Iran and now based in the Netherlands, they work between essay film, video installation, and interdisciplinary projects, engaging oil as both substance and story.

Working on site through filming, writing, walking, and conversations with local residents, they trace how geological time, landscape, and collective memory shape the narratives that surround extraction.

In Stavanger, they are interested in listening for the quieter stories beneath these global echoes.

Public program (first weekend):
17 April
Screening: One Image, Two Acts (2020) by Sanaz Sohrabi

18–19 April
Conversations with local residents (afternoon)

Studio17 is thrilled to invite to the exhibition opening of “Almost Held” by our current artists in residence, Damaris Athene and Valentino Vannini.

Exhibition opening:
Wednesday 4th March 6-8pm

Opening Hours:
Thursday 5th March 2-6pm
Friday 6th March 12-4pm
Saturday 7th March 12-4pm

Almost Held brings together new work by Damaris Athene and Valentino Vannini, developed during their residency at Studio17 in Stavanger. United by a shared interest in thresholds and states of transition, the exhibition unfolds as a material and perceptual dialogue shaped by the coastal landscape. Athene presents expanded photographic works initiated through site-responsive image making in Stavanger and on the island of Vassøy, printed on fabric and installed in space. Vannini exhibits a new installation combining lamp-worked glass and wax, informed by dissolving ice and chain-link fences observed around Storhaug park. Together, the artists create an environment of suspended transition and permeable boundaries.

Studio17 Residency is pleased to welcome artists Damaris Athene & Valentino Vannini to Stavanger for the first Residency of 2026!

Damaris Athene and Valentino Vannini are exploring thresholds during their stay in Stavanger. They are interested in the borders between land and water, people and the social or commercial systems around them, or the boundaries between bodies. They are keen for the materiality of the Stavanger landscape to permeate their practices, making work in response to their embodied experiences.

Stay tuned for insights into their processes and announcements about events during their residency!
