Vi er svært glade for å kunngjøre vår kommende utstilling National Theatre av Jamie Fitzpatrick, som åpner 4. juni.
Dette er kunstnerens første soloutstilling i Skandinavia, og utstillingen undersøker de visuelle og symbolske strukturene som former nasjonal identitet. Med Storbritannia som eksempel synliggjør Fitzpatrick hvordan monumenter, historiemalerier og andre kulturelle uttrykk ikke er nøytrale, men aktive i å forme fortellinger om tilhørighet, makt og ekskludering.
Gjennom en serie nyproduserte verk presenterer han monumentale skulpturer og teatrale landskap som balanserer mellom satire og kritikk. Arbeidene er delvis basert på AI-genererte bilder inspirert av bevaringsretorikk, og viser hvordan nasjonalistiske estetiske praksiser også skaper forestilte landskap – bilder av et ideelt land som eksisterer i tanken snarere enn i den fysiske verden.
National Theatre presenterer nye kunstverk samprodusert av Kunsthall Trondheim i samarbeid med Outer Spaces, produsert innenfor deres studionettverk i Skottland, Storbritannia.

We are very excited to announce our upcoming exhibition National Theatre by Jamie Fitzpatrick, opening June 4.
This solo presentation, Fitzpatrick’s first in Scandinavia, examines the visual and symbolic frameworks through which national identity is constructed. Drawing on the British context as a case study, the exhibition strips away the veneer of neutrality from monuments, historical imagery, and other cultural forms, revealing their role in shaping narratives of belonging, power, and exclusion.
Through a series of newly commissioned works, Fitzpatrick stages monumental sculptures and theatrical landscapes that hover between satire and critique. Informed in part by AI-generated renderings of preservationist rhetoric, these works expose how nationalist aesthetic practices also conjure fictive environments that house an ideal country, to be traversed in thought and mind, rather than on foot.
National Theatre features new artworks co-commissioned by Kunsthall Trondheim in partnership with Outer Spaces, produced within their studio network in Scotland, UK.
