A treasured addition to any collection on Mindanao studies, Davao History by Ernesto I. Corcino remains one of the pioneering texts that attempted to document and define the historical narrative of Davao. Though written in an earlier period—where some terminologies, perspectives, and historical framings may now be reconsidered or updated through contemporary scholarship—the book continues to stand as a landmark contribution to Davao historiography.

What makes this work enduring is its remarkable richness in detail. Corcino gathered accounts, events, personalities, and developments that have become valuable references for researchers, students, cultural workers, and anyone seeking to understand the foundations of Davao’s identity. Beyond being simply “old,” the book carries the weight of an era that sought to preserve memory before many stories disappeared from public consciousness.

Reading it today is both a historical and reflective experience: it reveals not only Davao’s past, but also how history itself was written and understood during its time. Despite the evolution of language and historiographical approaches, Davao History remains gold—a foundational text whose importance cannot be overlooked in the continuing conversation about Davao’s cultural and historical heritage.

Read the book at Art Resource Center Library and Gallery. We are open from Monday to Sunday, 1:00 to 7:00 pm. We also have other books about Davao’s History.

José Rizal Sculptor
Written by Celestino M. Palma III and edited by José Ma. A. Cariño, this book reveals a lesser-known dimension of José Rizal—his work as a sculptor. Through thoughtful research and documentation, the book explores Rizal’s sculptural practice as an extension of his intellectual, nationalist, and artistic spirit, offering readers a more intimate encounter with the hero beyond history textbooks.

Curatorial Activism: Towards an Ethics of Curating
Authored by Maura Reilly, this influential text examines how curating can challenge exclusion and reshape representation in the art world. The book advocates for more inclusive exhibitions by foregrounding women artists, artists of color, LGBTQ+ voices, and other historically marginalized communities. Essential reading for curators, cultural organizers, and anyone interested in the politics and responsibilities of exhibition-making.
