Today, we celebrate the birth of Benedicto Cabrera, better known as "๐๐๐ง๐๐๐."
A graduate of the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts, Cabrera rose to prominence as a painter and printmaker, with works exhibited throughout the Philippines, Asia, Europe, and the United States. He is best known for his 'Sabel' series, where his masterful use of drapery and movement turned a displaced scavenger into an iconic representation of the Filipino identity and human resilience. In recognition of his contributions to Philippine art, he received the Gawad CCP Para sa Sining in 1992 and the National Artist of the Philippines for Visual Arts in 2006.
In 2009, he established the BenCab Museum in Baguio City, a space dedicated to preserving and showcasing Cordillera indigenous art alongside contemporary Philippine works.
Through his art and cultural advocacy, BenCab continues to shape the countryโs artistic and cultural landscape.
