CMU Museum

CMU Museum This is the official page of Central Mindanao University - University Museum. The establishment of the University Museum was initiated by Dr. Victor B.

Amoroso who was designated as the first Head of the University Museum. This was possible with the support of the late Dr. Mardonio M. Lao, the then President of Central Mindanao University, and with the encouragement of the former CHED Chairman, Dr. Angel C. Alcala. The University Museum was opened in 1998 as a repository of endangered, endemic, and economic species of plants and animals collected

from several mountains, and cultural artifacts from different places in Mindanao. Collections are properly processed and stored for students, researchers, and teachers. Earlier botanical and zoological collections including the facilities of the University Museum (UM) were project-based. The University Museum has 3 sections viz., Botany, Zoology & Anthropology (based on CMU Code Chapter 5. Article 8. Section 3.) which hold respective collections. The biological collections (plants and animals) feature collections obtained from the different mountain ecosystems of Mindanao especially from the Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) sites. The majority of the biological collections were obtained as part of research endeavors and student collections. Eventually, on June 7, 2005, the CMU University Museum was designated by DENR as a repository of biological specimens.
