GILDED LEGACIES SERIES: RIZAL AS A DOCTOR MEDICAL MISSION

The NHCP Southern Luzon Cluster of Museums, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Metro Lipa, Rotary Club of Metro San Jose, Rotary Club of Tanauan, and St. John the Baptist Medical Center will conduct the โ€œGilded Legacies Series: Rizal as a Doctor Medical Missionโ€ tomorrow, 17 October 2026, at the Malvar Historical Landmark.

Inspired by Rizalโ€™s dedication to medicine and service to his fellow Filipinos, the medical mission seeks to bring history to life through meaningful community service. More than remembering Rizal as a national hero, this will highlight his compassion and commitment as a physician who devoted his knowledge and skills to helping others.

This activity will bring together heritage, healthcare, and volunteerism in one meaningful endeavor. โค๏ธ

Through history, we remember. Through service, we continue their legacy.

This October, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines joins the nation in celebrating Museums and Galleries Month (MGM) 2026 with the theme, โ€œBridging Divides: Preserving the Present for Tomorrow.โ€

Observed every October pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 798, s. 1991, MGM celebrates the important role of museums and galleries in nurturing national consciousness, strengthening our connection with our cultural heritage, and carrying the stories of our communities forward. More than repositories of objects from the past, museums are living spaces for learning, dialogue, and discovery.

For the NHCP, these spaces extend across the country through our shrines, museums, and historical landmarks. They preserve the places where history happened, safeguard objects and memories that help tell our national story, and bring Filipinos closer to the lives, struggles, ideas, and communities that shaped our nation.

This yearโ€™s theme reminds us that history and heritage can help bridge distances between generations, communities, and different experiences. Museums become meaningful when the histories they preserve are shared, discussed, questioned, and made accessible to the people whose stories they tell.

Throughout October, we celebrate the people and communities who keep these places alive and the visitors who continue to discover something new within them.

The NHCP Museo nina Leon at Galicano Apacible flies the National Flag at half-mast to mark the passing of Resil B. Mojares, National Artist for Literature.

This is pursuant to Section 27 (k), Chapter I of the Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No. 8491 or the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines. As a National Artist, he will be given a State Funeral at the Cebu Memorial Parks and Gardens today.

The NHCP Museo nina Leon at Galicano Apacible joins the nation in bidding farewell to Resil B. Mojares, National Artist for Literature and distinguished historian whose scholarship and writings enriched our understanding of Philippine history, literature, and culture. His enduring legacy will continue to inspire generations of Filipinos.
