Pakistani artist Faiza Butt is set to showcase her distinctive Indo‑Persian par dokht miniature style at the prestigious 61st Venice Biennale, marking only the second time Pakistan has participated in the global art event. Curated under the theme “Punj •AB — A Sublime Terrain”, the pavilion highlights Butt’s journey from her early recognition on the cover of H.M.

Naqvi’s Home Boy to becoming a leading voice in contemporary art. With her candid reflection that “this is not the Faiza Butt Pavilion, it’s the Pakistan Pavilion,” she underscores the responsibility of representing the nation’s creative identity on an international stage.

There's only a few weeks left to see Theatre Picasso at Tate Modern 🎭

Discover the drama, energy and performance of Pablo Picasso with over 45 works on show, some never seen in the UK before. Picasso was fascinated by performers and their ability to transform. He was inspired by the dancers, entertainers and bullfighters he painted. He borrowed from them to create his own public persona: Picasso, the Artist.

Bushra Waqas Khan
Title: Beating Heart
Medium: Silk and Organza

Description:
The spectacular aspect of this piece is that Bushra takes her inspiration from the motifs of affidavit paper. As we all know, affidavit paper is used for legally binding contracts, such as marriage contracts, sale of property, and other official agreements. All legally binding contracts are written and signed on this paper.

Bushra thoughtfully selects a motif, in this case, the heart motif from the affidavit paper and has it printed onto silk. Each of these small hearts is then hand-cut and carefully sewn onto organza fabric. She then creates these beautiful ball gowns from them.

The work strongly conveys empowerment for women. Traditionally, affidavit papers represent legal ownership and authority, often associated with men or the male head of the family or society. In this piece, however, she reclaims that symbol and transforms it into a beautiful ball gown, a dress for a woman, almost like a form of protection or assertion of identity.

In this sense, the work powerfully speaks to women’s empowerment and emancipation. Her delicately crafted process is absolutely astounding and makes this not only a significant statement on women’s rights, but also an exceptionally beautiful piece of art to own.
