Husn-e-Hunar is grounded in the voices, memories, and generational knowledge of artisans who have tirelessly preserved Pakistan’s traditional crafts through generations. More than an exhibition, it is an effort to document the people behind the practices that continue to shape the country’s cultural identity.

Listen to Senior Project Manager of the Oral History Project, Salman Tahir, as he speaks about the research, vision, and documentation process behind the exhibit. He reflects on the critical gaps in the preservation of Pakistan’s craft histories and highlights the importance of recording artisans’ oral histories to ensure these traditions, skills, and cultural narratives endure for generations to come.

Meet Ustaad Muhammad Bashir: a master kite maker and flyer with a legacy spanning more than 50 years. His journey began with an intergenerational skill of kite-making inherited from his elder brother, which he has now passed on to his Shahgird (apprentice), M. Usman. Today, he is more than a Ustaad; he is the guardian of the craft’s history. His vintage kite collection tells the story of an era, serving as a timeline for the craft’s heritage and its changing economy.

Learn the art of kite-making with M. Usman as he explains the steps in the process of kite-making from scratch.
