The Cosmic Weaver -my latest work, awarded a silver medal at Scale Model Challenge 2026 in the Storytelling Figure Master category.
This was my first attempt at creating a storytelling piece, deliberately shifting the focus beyond painting and modelling skills alone. I wanted to explore a slightly different aspect of the hobby and create something that tells a story, evokes certain feelings and leaves room for interpretation.
The idea simply appeared in my head one day, and I thought it was worth giving it a try. So here we are.
From a modelling perspective, this was quite a challenge, especially when it came to creating the spiderwebs. I learned a lot throughout the process, and I'm happy I decided to give this idea a chance.
As for the inspirations behind it, I'll leave that up to your imagination. Lovecraft, mythology, the world of the KULT RPG, and the dark fantasy I absolutely love - from The Black Company to The Malazan Book of the Fallen - are all somewhere in the mix.
Interestingly enough, despite the seemingly dark nature of the piece, my main inspiration came from rather positive associations: a cosmic act of creation, the birth of something new, the weaving of existence itself. But that's just my interpretation. I'd love to hear yours.
I think storytelling is a fascinating direction, and it's definitely something I want to explore further in my future work.
Let me know in the comments what you think of The Cosmic Weaver and what kind of story you see in it.
