There is something dizzying about seeing it all at once. Bold abstracts next to quiet winter villages, teddy bears next to stormy seas, a pig in pearls a few rows away from a ballerina. The longer the wall keeps growing, the clearer it gets: somewhere in there is a painting that feels like it was made for you.

Same two paintings, five rooms, five kinds of light. Which room wins?

These roses change with the hour. In morning daylight the yellow bouquet of Petal Cantata glows against its cool lavender ground, and by lamplight the rust and vermilion petals of Ember Bouquet start to smoulder. Both are built with a palette knife, in oil so thick the flowers almost lift off the canvas, and side by side they read like one bouquet seen at two times of day.

A whole choir of cats is laughing at you. Find the one with the gold chain and the dollar sign.

This painting is pure good mood. A crowd of cats squeezed into one frame against a sunny yellow wall, every one with its own face: wide round eyes, a tongue out, sunglasses, a tiny red heart on a necklace. You catch yourself looking for a favourite, and then you notice you are smiling back at them.

Anna, Adam & Rudy. Episode 4: The Gift. Adam wanted to save on his mum's birthday present and bought a "hand-painted original" at the door. His mum taught art for thirty years.

Sunlit Cavalcade makes you smile before you know why. Two dogs ride a lemon yellow scooter along a lake, ears in the wind, as if the trip was their own idea, and a small striped cat stares out from under the seat with huge green eyes. The colours are loud and sunny, the outlines bold, and the whole canvas feels like the first warm day of a holiday.

Up close it's ridges of paint pressed on with a knife. Step back, and it's a regatta racing across a lavender sea.

This small canvas is loud in the best way. Scarlet and plum sails lean into the wind, one big boat in front and a whole fleet behind it, and their reflections drip straight down into turquoise water. Nothing here is smoothed out: you can see every pass of the palette knife, so the painting looks different each time the light in the room changes.

Anna, Adam & Rudy. Episode 3: Seven PM. Adam forgot their anniversary, had two minutes to invent a surprise, and Anna was one step ahead of him all along.

Lunar Currents is a night you can hang on your wall. A big pale moon glows in the middle, and blue and green forms twist around it like seaweed caught in a current. The paint is laid on thick, stroke after stroke in one direction, so the whole board seems to move, and at 92 cm tall it holds a wall the way a window does.

Episode 2: The Frame. The painting arrived without a frame, Adam wanted black, Anna wanted gold, and the answer was neither.

Sunlit Repose is a warm afternoon you can hang on a wall. A woman in a wide hat leans back in her chair, and the whole canvas glows in yellow, mango and mauve. The paint is laid on thick with a palette knife, so up close every stroke catches the light, and from across the room it turns into sunshine.

A man flies over a birch river, and nobody on the bank seems surprised. Look again: the water is not empty either.

This is a spring you can almost hear. Fresh green leaves, white birch trunks, a pale sky full of birds, and a quiet river running into the light. Then the strange guests appear: an egg-headed gentleman in a red coat pointing up, a long-limbed flyer with his hair in the wind, a green horned creature waiting in the shallows. It is a painting that makes people stop, smile and start looking for more.

Episode 1: The Empty Wall. Every new home has that one wall, and Anna and Adam finally found what belongs on theirs.

Elysian is a slow walk through colour. Vertical bands slide from warm crimson through dusky mauve and deep lapis into soft greens and cream. Stand in front of it and the room goes quiet: the eye drifts from one edge to the other, the way daylight moves across a wall.

A moon that fills half the sky, a white city of domes on the plain, and on the old stone steps a man playing his guitar. Next to him, a tiny robot.

There is a quiet joke in this painting that you only notice on the second look. Everything around the guitarist is huge and new: the moon, the futuristic city, the machine standing on the terrace. And he just sits on the warm stone steps and plays, as if none of it matters. The turquoise sky and the soft clouds keep the whole scene calm, almost like a summer afternoon. On a wall it works like a window into another world, and every guest will stop to look for the little robot.
