- 'Free as They Want to Be: Artistas Comprometidos com a Memória" apresenta obras de arte contemporânea inspiradas pela memória histórica. A exposição considera, sob perspectivas comparativas, o papel histórico e contemporâneo que a fotografia e o cinema desempenharam ao lembrar os legados da escravidão e suas consequências. A mostra também examina as vidas sociais de um grupo diverso de americanos em vários lugares — na terra, em casa, em álbuns fotográficos, em locais históricos e na memória pública. "Free as They Want to Be" oferece uma visão de um povo que expressou seu desejo de ser livre em retratos fotográficos antigos'.

- 'Free as They Want to Be: Artists Committed to Memory presents contemporary art inspired by historical memory. The exhibition considers in comparative perspectives the historic and contemporary role photography and film have played in remembering legacies of slavery and its aftermath. It also examines the social lives of a diverse group of Americans within various places—on the land, at home, in photographic albums, at historic sites, and in public memory. Free as They Want to Be offers a view of a people who expressed their desire to be free in early photographic portraits.

- 'A Turtle with a Broken Back" convida o público a uma imersão profunda nas comunidades e no território de São Tomé e Príncipe, num contexto de intensas transformações sociais e ambientais. O trabalho de Casanova oferece um olhar sensível sobre a vida quotidiana deste arquipélago, enquanto o país se prepara para celebrar os 50 anos de independência.

Através de imagens que mesclam o documental e o poético, a exposição explora os desafios que as comunidades enfrentam, desde as marcas do passado colonial, a escassez de recursos, até a mudança climática e a crescente dinâmica do turismo. A tartaruga, com seu casco rachado, emerge como uma poderosa metáfora para as fragilidades e resiliências do povo são-tomense.

Com um enfoque na natureza e nas tradições locais, as fotografias de Tiago Casanova revelam a autonomia e o isolamento das ilhas, enquanto destacam a importância da preservação do património cultural e da memória coletiva.'

- 'A Turtle with a Broken Back" invites the audience to take a deep dive into the communities and territory of São Tomé and Príncipe, in a context of intense social and environmental transformations. Casanova's work offers a sensitive look at the daily life of this archipelago, as the country prepares to celebrate 50 years of independence.

Through images that blend documentary and poetry, the exhibition explores the challenges that communities face, from the scars of the colonial past and the scarcity of resources to climate change and the growing dynamics of tourism. The turtle, with its cracked shell, emerges as a powerful metaphor for the fragility and resilience of the São Tomé people.

With a focus on nature and local traditions, Tiago Casanova’s photographs reveal the islands’ autonomy and isolation, while highlighting the importance of preserving cultural heritage and collective memory.'
