Aberto ao público em 1976, encontra-se instalado na antiga casa de férias do Dr. Joaquim Manso (1878-1956), escritor e jornalista fundador do “Diário de Lisboa” – uma moradia de princípios do século XX localizada no Sítio, um dos núcleos populacionais mais antigos desta vila piscatória tradicional. Na proximidade, o majestoso Promontório sobranceiro ao mar e o conjunto monumental religioso da Ermida da Memória e Santuário de Nossa Senhora da Nazaré. THIS MUSEUM was opened to the public in 1976, in the old summer house of the jornalist Joaquim Manso. It is localizated in Sítio, one of the ancient land of Nazaré. The ancient testimony of the human presence in this cost, the history of the village and the cult of the Our Lady of Nazaré, the culture of the sea and the fishing gear, the work and the festivals and the traditional costume, are themes that compose the expository route which shows the identity of the region and the closer relationship with the sea. The wide range of assets, that goes since the prehistory until our own century, illustrate this kind of themes: the vessels and equipage of traditional fishing, the typical costume, the paintings and sculpture, as well the collection of photographs of Álvaro Laborinho, among others, who captured unique moments of religiousness and the daily life of this fishing village, and it was elected as the summer beach in the beginning of the century XX and, actually, is famous by “The Big wave”. Finally, the Museum is near of the astonish Promontory overlooking for the sea and is close too of the Chapel of Memory and the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Nazaré.
