In Grass Pillow, Jiôn Kiim invites us into a space where perception remains open, fluid, and unresolved. The work resonates with Kusamakura (Grass Pillow, 1906) by the Japanese novelist Natsume Sōseki in its resistance to narrative structure, unfolding instead through processes of seeing, feeling, and thinking in which images emerge, dissolve, and remain open-ended. Through layered processes of applying and removing material, forms emerge, dissolve, and reappear, creating moments of pause, drift, and quiet contemplation.
