🇸🇪 Den 5 oktober 1956, klockan 20, gick ridån upp på War Memorial Opera House i San Francisco. På scen stod Birgit som Brünnhilde i Wagners Die Walküre. Det var hennes amerikanska operadebut, och början på en alldeles särskild relation till San Francisco Opera.
Genom åren återvände Birgit till San Francisco i olika roller, och 25 år senare stod hon återigen på scen som Brünnhilde. Samma år, 1981, hedrades Birgit med en medalj. En fin utmärkelse som hyllar Birgits betydelse för operahuset.

🇺🇸 On October 5, 1956, at 8:00 PM, the curtain rose at the War Memorial Opera House in San Francisco. On stage stood Birgit as Brünnhilde in Wagner’s *Die Walküre*. It was her American opera debut and the beginning of a very special relationship with the San Francisco Opera.
Over the years, Birgit returned to San Francisco in various roles, and twenty-five years later, she once again took the stage as Brünnhilde. That same year, 1981, Birgit was honored with a medal, a fine distinction celebrating her significance to the opera house.
