Romain Thiery
Requiem pour Pianos
Limited Edition Photographs
Requiem pour Pianos is a long-term photographic and sound-based project by French artist Romain Thiery, developed over more than a decade. Travelling through abandoned and forgotten places around the world, Thiery searches for pianos left behind in silence.
Each piano is photographed exactly as it was found. Untouched, unrestaged and suspended between architecture, decay and memory. Once created to resonate, these instruments now exist as silent witnesses to the lives, music and places that have disappeared around them.
For Thiery, the piano becomes more than an object. It is a trace of human presence, culture and time. The project invites the viewer to listen to places that no longer speak, and to experience music not as performance, but as memory.
Presented internationally in galleries, museums and art festivals, Requiem pour Pianos has become Romain Thiery’s signature project. A poetic archive of abandoned instruments, forgotten rooms and the fragile beauty of silence.
