Golden Boy, New York City, 1990
Contact Sheet

Albert Watson’s Golden Boy began almost by chance during a children’s fashion shoot in New York. Watson noticed the boy’s striking presence and later photographed him with an 8x10 view camera. He applied gold spray to the model’s hair and skin, then photographed him in black and white before adding colour back into the final image. The result is a portrait that feels sculptural, timeless and almost mythological.

The session was extremely brief. Watson later recalled that the shoot produced only two Polaroids and no more than six to eight frames. That rarity adds to the power of the image.

Golden Boy has since become one of Albert Watson’s most celebrated works, collected by both celebrities and art collectors around the world.

Seen as a contact sheet, Golden Boy reveals the precision of Watson’s process. A handful of frames, a fleeting moment, and one of contemporary photography’s most unforgettable portraits.

Romain Thiery
Requiem pour Pianos
Limited Edition Photographs

Requiem pour Pianos is a long-term photographic and sound-based project by French artist Romain Thiery, developed over more than a decade. Travelling through abandoned and forgotten places around the world, Thiery searches for pianos left behind in silence.

Each piano is photographed exactly as it was found. Untouched, unrestaged and suspended between architecture, decay and memory. Once created to resonate, these instruments now exist as silent witnesses to the lives, music and places that have disappeared around them.

For Thiery, the piano becomes more than an object. It is a trace of human presence, culture and time. The project invites the viewer to listen to places that no longer speak, and to experience music not as performance, but as memory.

Presented internationally in galleries, museums and art festivals, Requiem pour Pianos has become Romain Thiery’s signature project. A poetic archive of abandoned instruments, forgotten rooms and the fragile beauty of silence.
