This week’s editor’s pick is an opal, sapphire and diamond ring, currently coming to auction at Bruun Rasmussen.

Mounted in 18k white gold, a luminous cabochon opal takes centre stage, framed by rich blue sapphires and brilliant cut diamonds. The combination of shifting colour, deep blue tones and delicate sparkle gives the piece an elegant, almost celestial quality.

The ring will go under the hammer on 2 September as part of Bruun Rasmussen’s Jewellery and Fashion auction 💍

The Queen of Polka Dots has died at the age of 97.

Known for her pumpkins, polka dots and Infinity Mirror Rooms, Yayoi Kusama developed a distinctive visual language recognised around the world.

In the late 1950s, Kusama moved to New York and became part of the avant-garde art scene alongside Andy Warhol, Donald Judd and Claes Oldenburg. Through painting, sculpture, performance and installation, Kusama explored repetition, infinity and the hallucinations she had experienced since childhood.

Kusama represented Japan at the Venice Biennale in 1993. In the decades that followed, her work reached an increasingly wide audience, extending far beyond the art world.

This week’s editor’s pick is a patinated bronze and velvet “à la souris” stool by Diego Giacometti, created around 1960.

A small bronze mouse sits on the foot bar beneath the velvet seat, a detail typical of Giacometti’s furniture designs, where animals often appear in subtle and unexpected ways.

Born on April 9, 1906, Victor Vasarely was a pioneering force behind kinetic and optical art, creating works that seem to move through the interplay of geometric forms and vibrant color.

Influenced by Bauhaus principles and later based in Paris, he developed a visual language built on repetition and abstraction, designed to challenge perception and engage the viewer’s eye. His work could be both mesmerizing and disorienting, dividing audiences while redefining modern art.

At the height of his career in the 1960s and 70s, Vasarely brought his vision beyond the gallery into public space and popular culture, even collaborating with David Bowie. His belief that art should be accessible to all continues to shape his enduring legacy.
