VAAF – stor konst med feministiska teman

VAAF är en mural- och illustrationsduo från Groningen, bestående av Lotte Masker och Jonna Bo Lammers. Duon arbetar främst med färg, och namnet VAAF kommer från det groningska dialektordet för färg.

Med ett färgstarkt, lite märkligt och storskaligt uttryck berör VAAF aktuella samhällsfrågor, särskilt feministiska teman. Genom färg och ornamentik bjuder de in betraktaren och gör det lättare att närma sig svåra ämnen.

Lotte Masker bor i Groningen och Jonna Bo Lammers bor i Stockholm.

VAAF’s work is seductive at first glance - bold colour, playful forms and an almost immediate sense of joy.

Look closer and the tension begins to surface.

Through humour, symbolism and visual contradiction, VAAF explores gender, power, sexism and the expectations placed on women.

The work moves between the personal and the political, using playfulness not as an escape from serious subjects, but as a way into them.

KULTURNATTEN UPPSALA - 12.9.26

VAAF is the Dutch artist duo Lotte Masker and Jonna Bo Lammers.

Their practice moves between illustration, mural painting and public art, with a bold, colourful visual language and a strong focus on women, identity and feminist themes.

Their work often portrays women as confident, independent and unapologetic protagonists, combining playful imagery with social commentary. The result is accessible and visually immediate, but with a political edge underneath.

On the 12th of September (Uppsala Culture Night) we welcome you to experience their practice in the gallery space.

OPENING DURING KULTURNATTEN IN UPPSALA

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12 12.00–22.00

During Kulturnatten, Wildstyle Gallery opens a new exhibition with VAAF - the Dutch mural and illustration duo Lotte Masker and Jonna Bo Lammers.

VAAF have developed a style that is colourful, a little strange and above all BIG. Through colour, ornamentation and large-scale imagery, they approach pressing social issues, particularly feminist themes.

Behind the playful and visually direct expression are questions that can be difficult and complex. Through colour and ornamentation, the viewer is drawn into the images and towards subjects that might otherwise be difficult to approach.

Lotte Masker and Jonna Bo Lammers will be present during the opening.

Between the Lines - one of our favorite concept exhibitions to date.

Back in 2024, three of Sweden's leading artists — John Beijer, Emanuel Dekis & KAOS — came together to paint a 23-meter mural best experienced from the train between Uppsala and Stockholm. Visible 1 min after departure from the central station.
