This incredible project requires immense effort and attention to detail to bring every component back to life.

The 707 training center is taking shape! :-)

The “procedure trainer” is now installed. It was donated to me last year after its owner sadly passed away.
It seems to be made up of parts from two different aircraft:
Most of the parts come from: N738TW (built in 1959!), later OO-TED, which was scrapped in Brussels in 1987.
The overhead panel, and possibly some other parts, come from: OO-SJJ, ex-Sabena, which was written off in Goma in 1990.

FE seat fixed and installed. It comes from N707QJ ex RAAF. Starting to build the electrical system for the sim, with various buses that can be controlled via relays. The relays can also be manually switched on or off, allowing me to illuminate the cockpit even with the computers turned off.

I’m also starting to install the circuit boards that I was able to purchase thanks to your donations!

Exciting times ahead as we’ll soon be powering things up! ✈️

Picked up a transponder from N707GE, a 707-321 delivered to Pan Am in April 1960 — the very same month D-ABOD was delivered to Lufthansa. It’ll be put to good use in the sim.
An A330 transponder is shown the in background - not much has changed in 60+ years 😉

Both control columns have been reinstalled.
Removed, cleaned, lubricated, and rebuilt both control column support assemblies (8 hrs total)

Correctly adjusted the control column installation angle to 10.54° forward in the detent position, thanks to a helpful reference photo (thank you ;-)

Successfully reconnected both control yokes via the interconnect steel cables. Tensioning the interconnect cables requires two people to keep both yokes perfectly centered.

Both pilot seats have been reinstalled.
Bass shakers have been fitted to both seats, significantly improving realism, just as they do in the Caravelle simulator.

I am in the process of reinstalling the control column after overhauling the entire mechanism beneath it. My question to you is: would you restore the yoke, considering that it is an original one from Lufthansa D-ABUD (later registered as 5Y-AXI), or would you preserve its current condition?

One more question about the control column:

The maintenance manual states that the control column must be set to a specific angle, but it doesn't specify the actual value. Instead, it refers to a special tool with a bubble level, which I don't have.

Does anyone happen to know the correct angle? I can move the control column about another 9° forward (9° increments). At the moment, it is leaning about 2–3° forward relative to the cockpit floor.

Captain's panel is installed, with wiring coming up next. All pilot Panels now installed.

Side trims are in place. During the cleanup I even found some Lufthansa refreshment towels, cleaned everything, and returned them to their original spot. The rear side of the trim is still hiding around 60 years of accumulated dust. 🙂 I keep it for the smell ;-)

Copilot's seat cover has been repaired and washed. This is my dad's original seat he sat on in 1975. Too bad his interest in the project is 0.

First bass shaker is installed, and the captain's and flight engineer's stations will receive one too.

Engine panel installed. I’m taking my time with the wiring and checking everything multiple times — as if the aircraft had to fly again. That careful work has already helped detect faulty solder joints and damaged wires early. The missing converted pilot instruments are still wrapped up in boxes from the move from Munich in 2022. I completed most of them back in 2021 already! Time bloody flies... They’ll soon be installed. The ADIs, standby horizon, and Fuel Used instruments still need to be done, though.

Next step will be the captain’s panel, but first a structural repair under the captain’s pedals has to be completed — a much bigger job than expected.
Sometimes the smallest details delay the biggest progress...

Copilot's side wired up. Except for the ADI all gauges are ready to be installed. The instruments installed already use a combined 37pin plug.
