What incredible energy the students of Tampines North Primary School brought to Peranakan Mansion today! 🎨🏛️

Their enthusiasm was infectious! So many questions, thoughtful observations and surprisingly insightful perspectives that made learning just as enriching for us as it was for them.

The young artists discovered the beauty of Peranakan shophouses and architecture, picked up new watercolour techniques and brought their own little masterpieces to life! 🎨✨

And learning went both ways! Nyonya Elaine picked up a few new painting styles herself from our three little winning artists! 🏆❤️

A huge thank you to the students and teachers for filling our mansion with curiosity, creativity, laughter and wonderful energy!

This is how we love to see heritage come alive! 🌸

Step into the sun-kissed streets of Katong and Joo Chiat, where time slows, stories linger, and Singapore’s east side reveals why it has long been the most coveted address for the city’s original elites—the living inspiration behind today’s Crazy Rich Asians aka the Peranakans..

This guided heritage walk invites you to wander through one of Singapore’s most atmospheric neighbourhoods, where pastel shophouses, graceful mansions, and age-old traditions sit effortlessly alongside modern café culture. Along the way, we uncover the rich tapestry of culture and heritage, lifestyle and leisure, arts and entertainment, and—most memorably—the iconic food traditions that define the Katong-ites.

Our journey unfolds gently from Marine Parade into the heart of Katong–Joo Chiat. Dress comfortably and let yourself meander, as this leisurely walk takes just over an hour. With every step, stories emerge: of seaside retreats turned fashionable enclaves, of Peranakan families who shaped a distinctive way of life, and of a neighbourhood that has always marched to its own elegant rhythm.

As we stroll, keep your eyes open for charming public art murals—some bold and unmistakable, others tucked away like little secrets waiting to be discovered. You’ll also enjoy thoughtfully curated treats and delightful bits of “loot” along the way—small pleasures that add flavour to the journey and might never have crossed your path without a local guide.

The walk concludes on a perfectly indulgent note at an air-conditioned oasis: an authentic Peranakan Mansion. Step inside this beautifully restored heritage home and be transported into the world of the Babas and Nyonyas, surrounded by exquisite antiques, intricate craftsmanship, and stories steeped in tradition.

Here, we gather for a tok panjang lunch, enjoyed in the convivial style of Peranakan households. The dishes—lovingly sourced along our walk—come together in a shared feast that celebrates both discovery and indulgence. This is a tour that teaches you how to fish for the best food in Katong… and then invites you to savour every bite of your catch.

So why wait? Gather your friends and join us on this unhurried, story-rich journey through one of Singapore’s most enchanting heritage districts. Come see, taste, and feel for yourself why—then and now—the East Side remains, undeniably, the Best Side.
