Our book discussion on “Arabs of Singapore: 200 Years On” on Saturday, 29 November 2025 at Ngee Ann Auditorium, ACM (Asian Civilisations Museum) brought together community members and friends from the wider public for an engaging conversation on the book’s themes.

The afternoon began with a Welcome Address by Prof. Syed Farid Alatas (AN@S Chairman; Co-Editor), hosted by emcee Aishah Alhadad, and a lively panel moderated by Omar Alattas (Co-Editor; Chapter Writer), featuring:
• Ambassador Ong Keng Yong, Executive Deputy Chairman, RSIS
• Afra Alatas, Chapter Writer
• Dr Charlotte Schriwer, Chapter Writer

Guests shared their thoughts, asked questions, and heard the chapter writers’ reflections on cultural identity and the importance of preserving lesser-told stories.

Afterwards, attendees enjoyed light refreshments, had the opportunity to have their names beautifully written in Arabic calligraphy by Ustazah Atiiqah Suhaimi, and connected with one another in a relaxed networking session.

Saturday, 22 November 2025, marked a milestone for AN@S as we unveiled Arabs of Singapore: 200 Years On at the River Room, ACM (Asian Civilisations Museum) — an evening that blended heritage, culture, and community into one memorable celebration.

Graced by our Guest-of-Honour, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, President of the Republic of Singapore, the event, hosted by our emcees Afra Alatas & Haady Mattar, featured a special cover reveal, photo moments with our team and chapter writers, and a dynamic cultural programme that highlighted the richness of the Singaporean Arab heritage.

Guests were treated to:

✨ A captivating performance by The Samrah Club
✨ A special musical appearance by Mustafa Balasyik
✨ A showcase of Arab Peranakan bridal heirloom attire
