Also known as SAM, we present contemporary art from a Southeast Asian perspective for artists, art lovers and the art curious in multiple venues across the island, including a new venue in the historic port area of Tanjong Pagar. SAM is building one of the world's most important public collections of Southeast Asian contemporary art, with the aim of connecting the art and the artists to the public

Windows become doorways. Rest takes shape through sitting, leaning, waiting, watching.

Assimilating into the century-old architecture of the Arsenale’s Sale d’Armi, 𝘼 𝙋𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙚 transforms the Singapore Pavilion into a space where rest unfolds through the body’s movement, stillness and presence.

Built from larch wood — the same timber historically used for the Arsenale’s floors and Venice’s foundations — shallow stepped platforms follow the Pavilion’s original flooring before angling towards its walls and windows. Rather than imposing onto the historic structure, the intervention blends into it, blurring the line between existing architecture and artwork.

There are no fixed routes or instructions. Visitors move through the space naturally, finding their own rhythm of rest and become part of the work through each movement, conversation and moment of stillness.

Singapore Art Museum is pleased to announce the publication 𝘼𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙖 𝙃𝙚𝙣𝙜: 𝙊𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙊𝙣

Published in conjunction with 𝘼 𝙋𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙚 — Amanda Heng’s exhibition for the Singapore Pavilion at the 61st Venice Biennale (May 9–November 22, 2026).

This book brings together four decades of Heng’s artistic practice and sustained experimentation, from the artist’s early drawings of the female body to the photographic studies and artworks with herself and her mother, and the performances she staged in the public spaces of Singapore and elsewhere.

Edited by curator Selene Yap, the book includes essays by curator Anca Rujoiu, critic Lee Weng Choy, architectural theorist Lilian Chee, and anthropologist Souchou Yao, as well as Heng’s own distinct voice, which accompanies a series of visual essays of her work—much of it seen here for the first time.

Co-published by Singapore Art Museum and Stolon Press.

Designed as a mandala-like spatial journey inspired by Buddhist cosmology, 𝘏𝘪𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘩𝘪 𝘚𝘶𝘨𝘪𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘰: 𝘍𝘰𝘳𝘮 𝘐𝘴 𝘌𝘮𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 brings together over 60 works across 11 series, inviting visitors to move through interconnected spaces that reflect on form, emptiness and the act of seeing. Opening 29 May.
