Singapore Art Museum

Singapore Art Museum SAM is a Museum In Action, bringing art experiences into everyday spaces. Singapore Art Museum opened in 1996 as the first art museum in Singapore.

Also known as SAM, we present contemporary art from a Southeast Asian perspective for artists, art lovers and the art curious in multiple venues across the island, including a new venue in the historic port area of Tanjong Pagar. SAM is building one of the world's most important public collections of Southeast Asian contemporary art, with the aim of connecting the art and the artists to the public

and future generations through exhibitions and programmes. SAM is working towards a humane and sustainable future by committing to responsible practices within its processes. For more information, visit www.singaporeartmuseum.sg.

In ๐˜™๐˜ฆ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฏ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ต๐˜ด, from ๐˜–๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆ ๐˜‹๐˜ข๐˜บ ๐˜ž๐˜ฆโ€™๐˜ญ๐˜ญ ๐˜œ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฅ๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ด๐˜ต๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ฅ, artist Sim Chi Yin reflects on memory, absence, and the traces people leave behind. Pairing photographs of belongings with cinematic landscapes, the work reveals how ordinary objects can hold unrecorded stories.

Once used in everyday life and struggle, the belongings are presented alongside landscapes shaped by absence and remembrance. Together, the images create spaces suspended between past and present, inviting us to consider how memories linger quietly within places and things.

Weโ€™re still reflecting on the excitement and energy of the Singapore Pavilionโ€™s inauguration at Biennale Arte 2026, held on 6 May in Venice.

Visitors and invited guests gathered for the opening of ๐˜ผ ๐™‹๐™–๐™ช๐™จ๐™š by Amanda Heng Liang Ngim, curated by Selene Yap, within the historic Sale dโ€™Armi at the Arsenale.

Across the Pavilion, visitors encountered stepped wooden platforms, close-up photographic studies from ๐˜—๐˜ข๐˜ณ๐˜ต๐˜ด ๐˜ฐ๐˜ง ๐˜”๐˜บ ๐˜‰๐˜ฐ๐˜ฅ๐˜บ (1990, reprinted 2026), and ๐˜ˆ ๐˜—๐˜ข๐˜ถ๐˜ด๐˜ฆ (2025โ€“26), a new dual-channel video filmed across Singapore and Venice. Together, the works reflect Hengโ€™s longstanding engagement with the body and the everyday, tracing how moments of pause and renewal emerge through ordinary rhythms and gestures.

Watch the full video for moments from the inauguration, and hear from the artist and curator on ๐˜ผ ๐™‹๐™–๐™ช๐™จ๐™š.
