Maya Gallery is a non-profit art institution founded in 2012, dedicated to advancing Singapore’s Malay artistic heritage, through research, publishing, and curatorial excellence. Maya Gallery, founded in 2012 by Singaporean artists Jeffrey Wandly and Masturah Sha’ari, starts a new chapter in 2026, centering on Singapore’s Malay artistic heritage. As a research-driven, non-profit institution, it is

committed to documenting, preserving, and advancing key narratives in Singapore’s post-independence art history. By maintaining active dialogue on significant modern masters, continued development of its founders’ practices, and supporting contemporary artistic growth, the gallery creates a custodial space for cultural memory and critical discourse. A grand gathering at the Taman Warisan Melayu (Malay Heritage Centre) last Saturday! Officiated by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, we were not only welcomed with traditional Malay music and dance and generous buffet at Permata (Gedung Kuning), but also reconnected with the community.

Kampong Gelam has a special place in our hearts as Maya Gallery began its journey here, in the hub of history, heritage and culture. Amongst the many collaborations we’ve had, our most memorable were with the Malay Heritage Centre:

During MHC’s Temasya Kampong Gelam 2011, we curated Satu Jiwa Dua Suara, an exhibition with a quartet performing the late Wandly Yazid’s music compositions. 🎶 At their Malay CultureFest in 2013, we produced Keronchong 1001 Malam, a concert paying tribute to Pak Wandly and highlighting our rich Minangkabau heritage. 🎨 Our ‘live portraits’ and batik painting activities were also part of MHC’s public programmes.

Congratulations to MHC on its reopening and Pesta Pecah Panggung festival. 🎉We look forward to their future plans and possible collaborations ahead! 💚✨⭐️

Maya Gallery will be taking a short pause this April for minor renovations and repairs as we refresh our space.

During this period, we remain reachable for all enquiries, artwork viewings (by appointment), and sales. We’re always happy to connect.

Thank you for being part of our journey. Looking forward to welcoming you back soon in an updated space!

🌙✨ 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐭 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐢 𝐑𝐚𝐲𝐚 𝐀𝐢𝐝𝐢𝐥𝐟𝐢𝐭𝐫𝐢. 𝑀𝑎𝑎𝑓 𝑍𝑎ℎ𝑖𝑟 & 𝐵𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑛. As we celebrate the end of Ramadan, we are grateful to our team, partners, clients, family, and friends. We hold in our hearts those facing hardship and conflict around the world. May this blessed Eid bring prosperity, hope, relief, and peace to every community in need. 💚

It’s always a pleasure to encourage curiosity and learning at our art space! Maya Gallery welcomed students and teachers from Northland Secondary School at our 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 exhibition last 27 Jan, where they had a guided tour with our gallery assistant Michelle. Our artists Andrew Huang and Mayang Sari were also on hand to share about their art practices. Through observation, drawing exercises, and interaction (loads!), the students had the opportunity to present their own takes and critiques on the art they saw and felt, and even had a blast adding their ‘lines’ and marks in our public sketchbook (this will be elaborated in another post)! An amazing afternoon of art appreciation indeed! 🎨

Our 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 exhibition may have ended, but the lively conversations at our second Art Sharing session on 24 Jan continue in pictures, where participating artists Mayang Sari, Heiko Schulze, Syazana Yassin, Andrew Huang, and Kay Saputra shared their creative inspirations and processes, and responded to questions from guests.

Thank you to everyone who made their way to see the exhibition, appreciated (and collected!) the works, and joined in the conversations during the hectic Singapore Art Week!
