Nai Lert Bar: A Taste of Old Siam
Nai Lert Sresthaputra began his entrepreneurial journey at the age of 18, later achieving success with the establishment of Thailand’s first fully Thai-managed department store in 1893. His business grew steadily through the import of quality goods from Europe and America.
He later expanded into a wide range of ventures, including horse-drawn carriage services and Hotel de la Paix, the first hotel operated entirely by Thais.
While the opening of such a modern, international-standard hotel attracted great public interest, it was not the hotel alone that captured attention “Nai Lert Bar” quickly became a highlight of the era.
The bar was known for its distinctive offering of Scotch whisky served with ice alongside a variety of snacks, from roasted lotus seeds and potato chips to fresh delicacies such as cheese, ham, salted pork, and homemade sausages prepared by Khunying Sin, Nai Lert’s wife.

นายเลิศ เศรษฐบุตร เริ่มต้นเส้นทางธุรกิจตั้งแต่อายุเพียง 18 ปี ก่อนจะประสบความสำเร็จด้วยการก่อตั้งห้างสรรพสินค้าแห่งแรกที่บริหารโดยคนไทยทั้งหมด ในปี พ.ศ. 2436 ธุรกิจของท่านเติบโตอย่างมั่นคง จากการนำเข้าสินค้าคุณภาพจากยุโรปและอเมริกา
ต่อมาได้มีการขยายกิจการไปสู่หลากหลายธุรกิจ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นรถม้าลากให้เช่า รวมถึง Hotel de la Paix ซึ่งนับเป็นโรงแรมแห่งแรกที่คนไทยบริหารจัดการเอง
การเปิดโรงแรมมาตรฐานระดับสากลเช่นนี้ ย่อมได้รับความสนใจจากสังคมในยุคนั้นเป็นอย่างมาก อย่างไรก็ตาม สิ่งที่ดึงดูดผู้คนได้ไม่น้อยไปกว่าตัวโรงแรม คือ “บาร์นายเลิศ”
เอกลักษณ์ของบาร์แห่งนี้อยู่ที่การเสิร์ฟสก็อตวิสกี้พร้อมน้ำแข็ง ซึ่งถือเป็นความแปลกใหม่ในยุคนั้น ควบคู่ไปกับอาหารว่างหลากหลาย ทั้งเม็ดบัวคั่ว มันฝรั่งทอด รวมถึงอาหารสดอย่างเนยแข็ง แฮม หมูเค็ม และไส้กรอกโฮมเมด ซึ่งปรุงโดยคุณหญิงสิน ภรรยาของนายเลิศ
