หอศิลป์บ้านจิม ทอมป์สันภูมิใจนำเสนอ ชีวิต เวลา ยืดหยุ่น (Living in an Elastic Time) นิทรรศการสัญจรจากเทศกาลช็องจู คราฟต์ เบียนนาเล่ ประเทศเกาหลีใต้ พ.ศ. 2568 ร้อยเรียงและตีความใหม่ภายใต้บริบทของพื้นที่และประวัติศาสตร์ของพิพิธภัณฑ์และหอศิลป์บ้านจิม ทอมป์สัน นิทรรศการริเริ่มมองงานหัตถศิลป์ในฐานะการปฏิบัติทางสังคม พิจารณา ‘เวลา’ ในสังคมไทยและเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ว่าเป็นสิ่งที่ ‘ยืดหยุ่น’ งานหัตถศิลป์จึงเป็นพื้นที่ใคร่ครวญปรัชญาชีวิต และพื้นที่ตั้งคำถามต่อการเร่งผลิตแบบเวลาอุตสาหกรรมและการเลือนหายทางวัฒนธรรมในโลกที่เปลี่ยนแปลงอย่างรวดเร็ว

ชีวิต เวลา ยืดหยุ่น จัดวางผ่านสามหัวข้อ; ส่วนแรก Creating Without a Time Limit มุ่งสำรวจการสั่งสมทักษะงานฝีมือดั้งเดิมและการทำซ้ำเชิงจิตวิญญาณ ตั้งแต่งานแกะสลักไม้ การทอผ้า การหล่อสำริด งานเชิดหุ่น ไปจนถึงเครื่องปั้นดินเผา ต่อเนื่องสู่การตีความร่วมสมัย เช่น ผลงานเขาวงกตขนาดใหญ่ ของวิชญ์ พิมพ์กาญจนพงศ์ / ส่วนที่สอง Techno Craft การผสานเทคนิคดั้งเดิมกับเทคโนโลยีร่วมสมัย โดยหวนสำรวจขนบสิ่งทอผ่านภาพยนตร์ งานออกแบบ และการทดลองวัสดุ จัดแสดงภายในและรอบเขาวงกต ทำให้เห็นการปรับตัวของนวัตกรรมใหม่จากงานหัตถศิลป์ / ส่วนที่สาม Time Is the True Home of the Mind การจำลองพื้นที่ภายในบ้าน เพื่อชี้เห็นความใกล้ชิดระหว่างศิลปะ งานฝีมือ และชีวิตประจำวันในบริบทไทย พร้อมตั้งคำถามต่อโครงสร้างที่เคยผลักงานช่างฝีมือให้อยู่ชายขอบของประวัติศาสตร์ศิลปะ

ต่อเนื่องจากมรดกความคิดของ พิพิธภัณฑ์และหอศิลป์บ้านจิม ทอมป์สัน ซึ่งตั้งอยู่บนความสนใจต่อทั้งขนบหัตถศิลป์และนวัตกรรมร่วมสมัย นิทรรศการ ชีวิต เวลา ยืดหยุ่น เป็นการใคร่ครวญถึงความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างเวลา ความทรงจำ แรงงาน และอัตลักษณ์ ผ่านความร่วมมือข้ามรุ่นที่ชวนให้ตั้งคำถามถึงการดำรงอยู่ปัจจุบันหรือการทวนกระแสของเวลา พร้อมกันนั้นยังสะท้อนถึงทั้งความเปราะบางและความยืดหยุ่นของขนบธรรมเนียมท่ามกลางการเปลี่ยนแปลงทางสังคมอย่างรวดเร็ว โดยเสนอให้งานหัตถศิลป์เป็นทั้งหลักยึดเหนี่ยวและสะพานเชื่อม ในยุคสมัยที่ทุกสิ่งอยู่ในภาวะเคลื่อนไหวไม่หยุดนิ่ง

The Jim Thompson Art Center is proud to present Living in an Elastic Time, a travelling exhibition from the Cheongju Craft Biennale 2025, Republic of Korea. This new presentation rearticulates and reinterprets the exhibition within the context of its site through the history of the Jim Thompson House Museum and art center. The exhibition begins by viewing craft as a form of social practice, and considering “time” in Thai and Southeast Asian societies as elastic. Craft thus becomes a space for philosophical reflection, and a space to question the acceleration of industrial temporality and the erosion of culture in a rapidly changing world.

Living in an Elastic Tim is organized into three sections. The first, Creating Without a Time Limit, explores the concept of long-term accumulation through which master artisans transmit ancestral techniques and spiritual dimensions through continuous repetition, from wood carving, weaving, and bronze casting to puppetry and ceramics, and is extended by contemporary artists in works such as the large-scale labyrinth by Wit Pimkanchanapong. / The second section, Techno Craft, combines traditional techniques with contemporary technology, revisiting textile traditions through film, design, and material experimentation presented within and around the labyrinth, positioning craft as a space of memory, adaptation, and material reimagination. / The third section, Time Is the True Home of the Mind, recreates domestic spaces to reveal their closeness to everyday life, reflecting the coexistence of art and craft in the Thai context, while questioning structures that have historically pushed artisanal practices to the margins of art history.

Extending the intellectual legacy of the Jim Thompson House Museum and the Art Center, both grounded in an interest in craft traditions and contemporary innovation, Living in an Elastic Time reflects on the relationship between time, memory, labor, and identity through cross-generational collaboration that invites reflection on existing within or resisting time. At the same time, it reflects both the fragility and resilience of traditions amid rapid social change, proposing craft as both an anchor and a bridge in an ever-moving world.

Before the Boxes Close: An Archival Exhibition Featuring Material from the Project 304 & Gridthiya Gaweewong Archive

Early exhibition materials from Project 304 and the Gridthiya Gaweewong Archive open onto a broader international context. Fragments of artistic histories, shifting ideas, and developments within the contemporary art scene remain embedded in these folders, awaiting return after Asia Art Archive’s digitisation and annotation. Before being stored again, selected physical and digital materials are presented at the William Warren Library, alongside books shaping Gaweewong’s curatorial practice, Because what does not appear in the digital realm does not mean it never existed.

ภาพบรรยากาศจากกิจกรรม Reading group: โฆษณาชวนเชื่อในนิตยสารเสรีภาพ พ.ศ. 2497–2518 ณ ห้องแกลเลอรี่ ชั้น 2 หอศิลป์บ้านจิม ทอมป์สัน ที่ชวนให้ร่วมผู้เข้าร่วมพิจารณาบทบาทของสื่อสิ่งพิมพ์ในฐานะเครื่องมือของสงครามจิตวิทยา และเปิดพื้นที่ให้ตั้งคำถามต่อการหล่อหลอมอุมดมการณ์ทางการเมืองในช่วงสงครามเย็น ขอขอบคุณ ธงนรินทร์ นามวงศ์ (ผู้เขียนบทความ) และผู้เข้าร่วมทุกคนที่ร่วมสร้างพื้นที่แลกเปลี่ยนความคิดเห็น เรียนรู้ ถกเถียงไปด้วยกัน เพื่อถอดรหัสแนวคิดที่ยังคงตกค้างและส่งอิทธิพลมาถึงปัจจุบัน

Snapshots from the Reading Group: “Propaganda in Seriphab Magazine (1954–1975)” at the gallery space, 2nd floor, Jim Thompson Art Center, inviting participants to collectively examine the role of print media as a tool of psychological warfare and to question the formation of political ideologies during the Cold War. Our sincere thanks to Thongnarin Namwong (author of the article) and all participants for creating a space of exchange, learning, and discussion together, unpacking ideas that continue to resonate and shape the present.

MO NUM EN TS is a solo exhibition by Som Supaparinya, curated by Gridthiya Gaweewong. The exhibition is open daily until 29 March 2026, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Admission fee: 50 THB.
