🎨 Mastering the Renaissance of Thai Lacquer Painting: A Tribute to Sanan Rattana ✨
An Associate of the Royal Society of Thailand in Fine Arts (Painting), Sanan Rattana is a venerated master who has devoted his life to the relentless pursuit of artistic perfection. Over a span of decades, his visionary craftsmanship has given rise to a monumental legacy, adorned with creations of supreme national significance.

📌 Key Achievements and Honors
🎨 Reviver of Ancient Techniques: The first Thai artist to rediscover and master the lost tradition of "Thai Polychrome Lacquer Painting" (Lai Kamalor) after more than a century of obscurity, receiving a research grant from the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) to preserve and build upon this cultural wisdom sustainably.

🏛️ Masterpieces for the Nation:
👨🏻‍🎨 Designed and painted the Royal Funeral Screens (Chak Bang Phloeng) for several major royal cremation ceremonies.
👨🏻‍🎨 Led the artistic team in creating the mural paintings for Song Tham Throne Hall during the Royal Cremation Ceremony of King Rama IX.
👨🏻‍🎨 Designed the gold-leaf gilding pattern (Lai Rod Nam) for the doors and windows of the Grand Mandapa at Wat Traimit and the Great Stupa at Wat Tako.

🏆 Awards and Recognition: Appointed as an Associate Fellow of the Royal Society of Thailand (2019), recipient of the Phet Siam Award (2020), and honored with the Mekong River Artist Award (2024).

🎨 We are delighted to announce Klai. Rak. Kamalor (กลาย.รัก.กำมะลอ), a new polychrome lacquer exhibition at Art Connecting Lacquer Museum, opening today.
The exhibition celebrates Kamalor, the traditional Thai art of painting in coloured lacquer, and presents innovative lacquer artwork using natural and alternative materials, developed through research to sustain traditional Thai craftsmanship.
🤝 It features works by Sanan Rattana, Fellow of the Royal Society of Thailand, with Thitapha Rattana and Kitnithi Katkaew, 🧪 alongside research by Asst. Prof. Dr. Soamshine Boonyananta and team from the Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University.
✨ From 25 October, the exhibition grows with new works by Art Education students from Chiang Mai Rajabhat University.
