🚗 Framo LT300
The Framo LT300 was a compact German passenger car produced between 1930 and 1933 in Zschopau by Framo. It was designed to be affordable and practical, featuring a lightweight wooden body, a 300 cc single-cylinder DKW engine, and a simple two-speed transmission. These specifications allowed it to reach speeds of up to 60 km/h while remaining economical to own and operate.
The LT300 was developed from the Framo TV300, evolving from a three-wheeled utility vehicle into a more conventional four-wheeled car. It featured a longer body, a separate driver’s cabin, and a proper steering wheel. Its compact size and low cost made it especially popular among mechanics and small businesses that needed a practical vehicle for transporting tools and goods.
Despite its usefulness, the LT300 was not a commercial success, with only 360 units produced over three years. Production ended in 1933, and it was replaced by the improved Framo LTH 300.
Afterward, Framo relocated its operations and, during World War II, was required to shift from civilian vehicles to military truck production. Following the war, its factories were dismantled under Soviet occupation, but the company later resumed production in 1949 under East German control, continuing operations until German reunification in 1990.
✨ The Framo LT300 remains a fascinating example of early European microcar innovation and practical automotive design.
