DeniseAnderson With the Impressionist’s hand, move the experiences of body, soul and spirit into one, that the measures of breath, willed by life, may not alight like dew

As a fine artist, continued development has led to a progressive change of approach, with respect to visual communication – from realism to post-impressionism. The artist’s intent has evolved; the desire to slave after nature and render exactly what is seen has been outgrown by an overwhelming sense of the necessity to communicate an experience to the spectator; an experience that extends beyond t

he optical senses – to create an emotive piece. Thus, it is the technique of the post-impressionistic painter that best empathizes with the manner most apt for the expression of thoughts and desires. For artistic admiration has always been partial to the works of Vincent Van Gogh; in particular, his evident study of colour and intentional juxtaposition of complementary hues. The artist endeavours to exploit these colour relationships; as well as maximise tonal qualities. As a result of the latter pursuits, the artist continues to be keenly interested in the work of another Dutch master, Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn, and this Old Master’s ability to create dramatic pause, as lit form emerges from rich shadows, in an intricate interplay of light and dark.
