Houbi Gang at Dusk, Dagouding
Tsai Kuen-Lin Exhibition
Tsai Kuen-Lin’s practice has long been driven by a persistent question: “How can we prove that something still exists when it cannot be seen? Or, if it cannot be seen, does that mean it does not exist?” In response, Tsai approaches sound as a form of presence, allowing listening to become a way of perceiving what remains invisible.
The exhibition space, , is located above Dagouding in Yancheng, Kaohsiung. The waterways that once flowed through this area were gradually covered over in the course of urban development, slowly disappearing from both public view and collective memory. Houbi Gang at Dusk, Dagouding turns its attention to these waterways erased from the visual landscape of the city, seeking to bring them back into perception through sound. In doing so, the exhibition asks: when we begin to hear the water again, might we also begin to see anew the possibility of a city and its rivers existing together?
