當航太工程遇上超現實美學：Matthieu Schaeffer 亞洲首個展 "This Is Not a Toy"

VINS Gallery 非常榮幸邀請到法國新銳藝術家馬修·謝弗 (Matthieu Schaeffer) ，即將於4月11日假VINS藝廊舉辦其在亞洲的首次個展，Matthieu 以其獨特的跨學科背景——結合航太工程的嚴謹與藝術的感性，在近年歐洲的當代藝壇迅速崛起，此次個展集結了Matthieu近半年多來的全新創作，誠摯邀請您於4月11日(週六)下午三點蒞臨藝廊參與開幕!!

本次個展 Matthieu 帶來了 24 幅全新的繪畫作品，核心圍繞著 「 #錯視 (Trompe-l'œil)」 與 #材質錯覺 展開。他運用細膩的噴漆技術，在畫布上模擬出陶瓷與塑料的高亮反射質感，使原本具有生命的動物主體，在觀者眼前轉化為「靜止的物件」。這種源於玩具與流行文化的美學，刻意營造出生命本質與人造材質感之間的強烈對比，挑戰我們對感知的邊界。
Matthieu 視台灣為一個充滿生命力的 #文化熔爐。在本次《This Is Not a Toy》主題下，他透過動物符號深度勾勒台灣的文化組成--
📣台灣在地與原民傳承： #台灣黑熊 與 #台灣雲豹。
📣漢民族文化底蘊： 騰飛的龍、神獸麒麟與生肖圖騰。
📣東洋與西方文化交會： 象徵招福的日本 #招財貓，以及代表西方傳統的 #達拉木馬。
承載了跨越國界的文化對話，在展場中交織出屬於台灣的集體記憶。
【藝術家簡介】
馬修·謝弗(Matthieu Schaeffer)1998年生，成長於肯亞和法國巴黎，於瑞士洛桑聯邦理工學院學習工程學，後於2021年在圖盧茲獲得航空航天工程學位。馬修目前居住工作於巴黎。
Matthieu透過陶瓷和塑膠製成的超現實動物繪畫來探索自然和人工之間的關係。 受他童年時期經歷的物種啟發，他試圖捕捉它們的脆弱性，並以陶瓷作為生態系統不穩定的象徵。 他繪畫風格結構線條的精確性源自於他的科學背景，而童年、記憶和夢想的主題可說是他作品的主軸。
他的藝術作品挑戰了我們的審美感知，並透過將動物變成光滑的人造物體來提高人們對自然脆弱的認知。 現實和人造之間的連動邀請觀眾重新思考他們與自然和生物世界的關係。
【Artist Statement】
This exhibition features a series of 24 paintings centered on trompe-l'œil and material illusion. Using a painting technique that mimics the glossy, reflective texture of ceramic or plastic, the animal subject which is inherently living, is represented here as an inert object. Borrowing from the aesthetics of toys and pop culture, this approach creates a direct contrast between the nature of the subject and its perceived materiality.
The body of work pays tribute to Taiwan's identity, exploring it as a cultural melting pot through the lens of animal symbolism. Each painting draws on a specific register to illustrate this blend: local and Aboriginal heritage (the Taiwanese bear, the clouded leopard), Han culture (the dragon, qilin, and zodiac animals), Japanese heritage (the maneki-neko), and Western influences (the Dalecarlian horse). While they appear to be simple toys, these figures actually evoke entire facets of distinct cultures, creating a dialogue across the exhibition space.
The choice of the toy motif also connects to a universal and intimate dimension related to the inner child. This thematic exploration is paired with formal research into visual perception. The compositions use tight framing, extreme close-ups of body parts or faces, to fragment the object. This technique shifts the image back and forth between figuration and abstraction, enhancing the dreamlike quality of the work and prompting the viewer to continually question what they are looking at.
