We are delighted to share that Tansbao Gallery represented artist Tsherin Sherpa is currently the subject of a major museum exhibition, "Divine Disruption: The Art of Tsherin Sherpa," at the Honolulu Museum of Art. Co-organized by the Honolulu Museum of Art and the Seattle Art Museum, the exhibition is on view through January 31, 2027.

Bringing together more than twenty key works—including paintings, sculptures, and a carpet installation, alongside several newly unveiled pieces—the exhibition surveys Sherpa’s artistic journey and his ongoing exploration of migration, cultural transformation, and the contemporary relevance of Himalayan Buddhist traditions. Trained in traditional thangka painting, Sherpa has developed a distinctive visual language that bridges ancestral knowledge and contemporary experience. Through the exhibition’s title, Divine Disruption, he reflects on the evolving relationships between tradition, displacement, and cultural translation in an increasingly interconnected world.

As one of the leading figures in contemporary Himalayan art, Sherpa continues to connect diverse cultural and historical narratives through his practice. His long-term collaborations with traditional artisans in Nepal have enabled historic craft techniques to find new expression within contemporary art, while supporting the preservation and evolution of local knowledge systems.

This exhibition at the Honolulu Museum of Art not only highlights the breadth of Sherpa’s artistic achievements, but also affirms the growing international recognition of his work within major museum collections and exhibitions.

We warmly congratulate Tsherin Sherpa on the opening of "Divine Disruption: The Art of Tsherin Sherpa" and look forward to seeing more audiences discover this important contemporary artistic practice from the Himalayas.

《Fragments

At this year's Art Taichung, Tansbao Gallery presents a solo exhibition by represented artist Tsherin Sherpa. The exhibition features works from the artist's Fragments series, including "Kalachakra" and "Palden Lhamo".

This series of works pays homage to the ancient tradition of Thangka painting and the myriad ways in which it is being preserved by the Himalayan diaspora spread across the globe. The works reshuffle the traditional thangka imagery to discover new meanings within the motifs. By changing the visual dynamics, the paintings derive new relationships between the fragments. They are parallel to the experiences of the Himalayan people whose identities have been reshuffled as they move away from their ancestral lands and find home amidst new cultures. Their relationship with their heritage is irrevocably altered, but they find new possibilities through the amalgam of their eastern and western outlooks on the world.

Huang Yi-jen (Amber Boy)’s work Holy Throw Tiger is currently on view in the special exhibition Where We Eat, Where We Pray: From Dining Table to Altar at Tainan Art Museum.

Taking the everyday dining table as its curatorial point of departure, the exhibition extends along the textures of daily life to explore how the household altar becomes a site for carrying human wishes and spiritual devotion, and how art may evoke creative modes of thinking that connect everyday sensory experience with systems of belief.

Within the “Tiger Gods” section, visitors encounter a wide range of Tiger God figures and interpretations. Positioned beneath the household altar, the Tiger God is not only regarded as the mount of deities, but also serves as a guardian responsible for warding off evil, protecting the home, and safeguarding children. In Taiwanese Hokkien, the pronunciation of “Tiger God” also carries auspicious associations with prosperity and abundance, making it an important folk symbol of fortune and blessing.

Through a timeline-based presentation, the exhibition connects past, present, and future representations of the Tiger God. Just as Japan has the Maneki-neko (beckoning cat), Taiwan has its own sacred guardian beast rooted in local folk belief and cultural tradition.

As the exhibition approaches its closing, we warmly invite you to visit before it concludes.

Ke Lin Yen (b.1993) received his PhD from the Department of Fine Arts at National Taiwan Normal University and is regarded as one of the most notable emerging voices in contemporary Taiwanese ink art.

Rooted in a strong foundation of traditional ink painting, his practice draws inspiration from the textures of the Laomei Green Reef along Taiwan’s northern coastline, leading to the development of his signature technique, “Nori Brushstroke” Through layered ink washes and bold colors, Ke reinterprets the visual language of classical shanshui painting through a contemporary lens, gradually establishing a distinctive landscape vocabulary infused with an “Eastern consciousness.”

Ke’s paintings often depict outdoor activities shaped by Taiwan’s unique geography, including diving, hiking, rock climbing, beach cleaning, and water sports. Through the intersection of nature and human activity, his works engage with Taiwan’s diverse landscapes while also reflecting on themes of urban development, energy, and environmental change. For the artist, landscape is not simply an object of viewing, but a space through which viewers may reconsider the relationship between humans and nature.

The artist will present his upcoming solo exhibition, Spectacular Landscapes from Taiwan’s Northern Frontier, at Keelung Museum of Art from November 30 to December 20, 2026. Through his practice, Ke continues to imbue natural scenery with layered meanings while exploring the cultural representation of landscape, consistently expanding the boundaries of traditional shanshui painting through a contemporary ink language filled with vitality and innovation.

Lain Singh Bangdel |Limited-edition publication
Available at Tansbao Gallery

Published on the occasion of Lain Singh Bangdel’s solo presentation at Art Basel Hong Kong “The Hybrid Cosmopolitan: The Father of the Modern Art Movement and His Art,” this publication focuses on works from 1950 to 1970, encompassing a pivotal period around 1961 when the artist returned to Nepal from Europe.

Works from this period demonstrate how Bangdel internalized the language of modernism, gradually developing an artistic expression rooted in Himalayan cultural contexts across both formal and conceptual dimensions.

The publication features contributions by scholars (Bibhaker S. Shakya), curator (Lou Mo), and artists (Tsherin Sherpa, Jeevan Rajopadhyay). Together with extensive visual materials, these texts trace the development of his practice and offer multiple perspectives on the artist and his work.

Nepalese artist Tsherin Sherpa arrived at Tainan Art Museum 2 just a week before the opening to put the final touches on his work. In the video, you can see him placing fragments and objects of hope around the central bronze sculpture.

“Wish Fulfilling Tree” was made with Nepali artisans using traditional hammered bronze techniques, inspired by the 2015 Nepal earthquake. Visitors can write their wishes on wishing cards and place them in the box beside the sculpture. After the exhibition, all of them will be taken to a temple in Nepal and ritually burned. Over 8,000 wishes have already been collected!

The exhibition is in its final month—come visit, share your wish, and let the blessings continue.
