The Dyess Memorial Center and Linear Air Park traces its origins back to the late 1970’s with the establishment of the first static display of historic aircraft. The EB-47E was the first plane to go on exhibit at Dyess. As time went on, more and more aircraft were added to the air park.
In the 1990’s the visitor center building was built and donated by the City of Abilene in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the US Air Force. The building was later repurposed as a museum to Lt Col Dyess and the history of Dyess and Abilene Army Airfield under the curatorship of Doc Warner. In conjunction with the Dyess Memorial Park, the museum is now known as the Dyess Memorial Center and the air park is the Dyess Linear Air Park.
On July 19, 2019, an expansion to the Dyess Memorial Park was dedicated to the 76 Airmen who have died in service to their country while attached to Dyess Air Force Base.
The Dyess Memorial Center is open to the public and is outside the fence line so anyone may visit. Hours are from 9:30 to 4:30 on weekdays. We are closed weekends and holidays. Find us at 800 Arnold Blvd, Abilene, TX 79607.
